I got mines extracted on Thursday. How long does it take for the pain to go away where i don't have to the painkillers anymore. This pain in my mouth is very bothersome. Not nothin to cry abut but it really makes me want to just stay in bed all day and not talk to anyone.

And when did you start eating regular food again and got off the liquid or soft diet?

Depends on if you get dry sockets- I did and the pain lasted a week or so

Three days was all it took for me. By the fourth day I was playing street hockey, to the chagrin of my girlfriend at the time.

I had alll 4 extracted plus an extra, so i had 5 extractions all together. I'm glad i got em all done at once. I dont ever want ot do this again.

I'll taking care of my teeth for now on.

Brushing morning and night, flossing, and goggling. And i'm scraping.

I had no pain whatsoever.

I didn't need any medication. My surgeon was the man.

I got it done near my house (I live in Potomac, he was in Gaithersburg, Shady Grove Rd.).

No idea what the cost, but I know he's a top 50 DC-area dentist/mouth surgeon. The whole process was great. Went in one day at the recommendation of my usual dentist, he said we should do all four to be safe, came in a week later, he gave me some drugs to pass me out, i wake up, feel weird as hell, but never felt any kind of pain, other than some occasional soreness, but nothing to need painkillers.

Where do you find stuff out like this? Is there a magazine or website.

Washingtonian Magazine does most of them. My parents have some framed articles with them mentioned in their respective fields of medicine.

The best thing to do is put a healthy dose of salt in a warm glass of water and then rinse your mouth with it.  Stings like heck but it helps the healing process immensely.

Brushing your teeth is fine, I think. I ate a solid diet of jello, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, some pudding, just a lot of soft stuff for about 5 days. My first real meal post-wisdom teeth = popeyes. delicious

I went through it twice!  I was a wimp and didn't want it done all at once.  I think it was just a few days but at least I could eat on one side to chew a little bit.

Are your stitches supposed to disolve?  Mine had to be taken out a week later.  Gad, this was a long time ago.  Hard to remember.

The salt water treatment is good.  Cleans it out a little bit.  Salt water is good for a lot of things.

I dont know about the stitches. He didnt say. I can see them in my mouth though. The end of one is sticking out. I got to go back in two weeks. Could that be to have the stitches taken out??

New question: How long does it take for extraction holes to close/filled up?

Usually, the stiches will dissolve. When I went back the guy was just going to check them out to make sure it's all healing properly.

As for your second question, no idea.

Months, almost a year in my case to have them completely be covered over.

If you had five impacted wisdom teeth, that's a lot of dental work.

My mouth hurt for a solid week when I had four done. I woke up one morning surprised that the pain had gone away pretty suddenly ...but this was 30 years ago, so things may have gotten better.

The holes will be healed over before the doc takes the stitches out. Don't start eating hard pretzels, though, you could re-open them. It'll take quite a while for the gums to get all smooth.

Before you go to the docs, write down every question you have. I type them up and hand the doctor a copy. Otherwise, I forget 90% of them. It's goofy, but it works.

I heal freakishly quickly. I felt better in like 36 hrs, and 2 or 3 weeks to totally heal up. I think I'm Wolverine.

If you want to test that theory, I don't mind injuring you (with your permission of course Logan) after that Belliard thread. ;)

You said a solid week for the pain to go away. It's been a week as of today, but the pain is still aggravating. I cant wait to wake up and it go away. I took a stand yesterday though. It was some bad pain but i refused the painkillers. I'm just going to wing it and hope it goes away. I was taking a lotta of pain killers the first week post-operation and i decided enuff was enuff.

I start school on Monday and really hope the pain is gone by then. I dont want to feel anything while i'm doing my core course.

But i'm done with the painkillers. I'm still taking the antibiotics, though.

A slight tangent - but everyone here knows that antibiotics reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills, right? That should be shared early and often.
