The (rather sparse) crowd gave Kuemper a slow clap when he finally stopped a shot.  Bit of a weird vibe in there last night.
that third goal was incredibly weak. Terribly play on Kuemper's part.

Ted wants some $$$

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/11/03/monumental-capital-one-arena-improvements-dc/

Quote
One of the people outlined the ask: Monumental would receive the $600 million over four years and use it mostly on construction. The major priorities are to transform the seating bowl — fewer nosebleed seats, more seats close to the court and ice — as well as add a food court that would be open during nongame hours and a new, glassy entrance at Seventh and F streets. Monumental wants to do incremental construction over four consecutive summers, starting in 2024, to avoid disrupting the playing seasons of the Capitals or Wizards, this person said.

my condo could use $600 million in renovations, too.
how big of a rink/court could you fit inside? :)

When I saw that article in this morning’s paper, I couldn’t help but wonder how you could possibly fit more seats closer to ice level unless you completely gut the building and reconstruct the entire seating bowl.

I think Potomac Yards would alienate fans north of the city. It's not that bad of a shot by metro down the green to the yellow, about 45 minutes to Wheaton with reasonable connections, but it's closer to an hour to Bethesda.

The area between East Glebe and 4 mile run (essentially the strip mall, PY station, and the VA Tech building) would need to be substantially reimagined to add in more restaurants for the arena not to be sort of isolated. A portion of the mall near VA tech was supposed to be incubator/industrial park space for startups. The best space left is mostly where the viable stores are (Target, Best Buy, Petsmart . . .), plus there's one block near the condos and town houses and the station. I'll assume that's the land they are eyeing, but the streetscape is not good for an arena there.  There's two office buildings on the opposite side of East Glebe from that block.

Team doing surprisingly well but don’t think it will last.  They are getting bailed out by strong performances by the back up goalies.  Enjoy while you can. Maybe they can sneak into the playoffs and win a series.

Ovi with 4 goals and 7 assists. Needs to reverse that form.

Just doing their usual post-2018 thing of looking really good around early/mid-season before the illusion goes away.  This year it came a little early.

The backup goalies are legit.  Kuemper needs to be traded

Lindgren is 30 years old and has only played about 60 NHL games with a .907 career save percentage.  Last year in 31 games a .899 save percentage.  So if you want to believe he can turn into a top flight NHL goalie now good for you.

Not sure about how good a prospect the other guy is.  But he is not going to save 36 of 37. 37 shots in most games.

No one is going to trade for Keumper at $5 million a year for another three seasons after this one. Unless they would eat most of the salary. He is the Caps main goalie the next few years.

Yes.

Edmonton coming to town soon. With a new coach. Cranky face Darryl Sutter. Hard to see him as a fit with the high flying loose defense Oilers.

Edmonton is turning into the LA Angels of the NHL, incredible talent but can't win. Their goaltending = LAA's starting pitching (outside of Ohtani).

The goaltending is bad but the defense is bad and the forwards don’t help out on that end.  Sutter is a defensive minded coach.

Darryl Sutter always makes me think of this guy (viral on the internet before we even called things viral):

If you ever want a laugh, there's this compilation on youtube from his press conferences back when he coached the Kings.  He has a great dry sense of humor.  You can tell he doesn't think much of the media, but instead of having outbursts like an NFL coach, he's more passive-aggressive and sarcastic like a true Canadian.

The new Oilers coach is Kris Knoblauch, i'm guessing he can't throw to first but maybe that won't matter in hockey?  They also hired Paul Coffey as assistant coach so probably a continued focus on defensemen who can play offense.
