If you have a your Google+ profile currently set to private, on July 31st it will be deleted. You have until then to make your details available and switch your account to public.

==================

The purpose of Google Profiles is to enable you to manage your online identity. Today, nearly all Google Profiles are public. We believe that using Google Profiles to help people find and connect with you online is how the product is best used. Private profiles don’t allow this, so we have decided to require all profiles to be public.

Keep in mind that your full name and gender are the only required information that will be displayed on your profile; you’ll be able to edit or remove any other information that you don’t want to share. If you currently have a private profile but you do not wish to make your profile public, you can delete your profile. Or, you can simply do nothing. All private profiles will be deleted after July 31, 2011.

mine was a later article.

Given that the policy reflected in the article I posted is still current, chronological order has no bearing on it's significance.

Truth be told, I hope G+ destroys Facebook so that I can just quit "social networking" altogether.  Though on the other hand, Google really doesn't need to be in charge of any more of the internet than it already is.

You know I'm just :stir: :poke: anyway

Everything but my name and gender is visible to outside people, same way FB is. Everything else is only visible to my circles. Seems fine to me.

Last time I checked, it was possible to make FB profiles completely private - no way to find them via search whatsoever.  That may have changed, but you missed the point anyway, I was just having a little fun with JMad :poke:

If they link it with the music they'll be a step ahead of facebook. Also, the coding is a bazillion times better than facebook's crap interface. It's very slick. The real name and serious email attached to the accounts will make it a lot different than facebook.

Basically Chief's image, though I think with some tinkering (especially with Sparks) I think it can be a better product.

PA - that's an interesting thought. I requested an invite to music, I want to try it out. With all the different google applications, it could be really nice. Maybe easy google doc sharing/editing through +, music, e-mail, everything. They can make Google+ essentially the one-stop place for anything you could need on the internet.

At this point all of these "social media/web 3.0/the new new thing" are really just a distraction from living life.

They're already 3 steps ahead of Facebook - the great integration with Gmail, the professional feel of the design quality, and the group video chat. Oh, and the sense you get that Google+ was designed by people who actually have friends in real life.

Thought: there's no Google+ version of writing on somebody's wall, is there? How do I just jot a note to somebody?

Thought II: For WNFFers and others, I have a baseball circle to post all my geeky baseball stuff. It's called "It's an American Baseball!" in honor of the ending of this magic trick

you can write directly to one person, instead of writing to a whole circle.

Quote
In a post on Google+, Vic Gundotra, a senior vice president of engineering at Google, told his followers that users have been providing a lot of positive and negative feedback about Google's new social network, and that the company plans to respond to some of them this week.

"Lots of criticism for Google+," Gundotra wrote at about 2:05 a.m. EDT today. "We are listening and working to address. Stay tuned for changes this week."

here is the G+ post in question:
