So, what are the odds Dom ends up with as many HRs as Joey and has a higher obp?

Another garbage time HR by Smith. Has he hit one of his ten that was a game changer?  Useless on offense and his stellar defense cannot make up for his abysmal BA with RISP. Re -signing him for next season is a statement by the FO that they are punting the season.

Did you have a problem with Joey when he had a .220 batting average with RISP last year? RISP is not something that is consistent. It really depends more on the quality of the hitter. David Ortiz was good with RISP because he was a great hitter. Dom's had some touch luck this year and Joey has seemed to be able to turn it on when he has runners in scoring position. A reality check would say that neither are that far from middling as hitters, at least this year.

Dom: .260 / .330 / .365, 10 HR, .309 wOBA, 92 wRC+
Joey: .278 / .325 / .400, 11 HR, .316 wOBA, 97 wRC+

That we are even having this conversation is kind of an indication that neither is a heart of the order guy, at least this year.  Dom also was really pathetic early, while Joey of course had those 50 or so games last year. That kind of colors our attitude.  Since May 1, Dom is .266 / .335 / .387, 98 wRC+, with 9 HRs; Joey .276 / .327 / .408, 100 wRC+, with 10 HR. Awful tough to tell them apart, but for RISP.

Joey hits the ball harder but with less loft. His grounders have found a way through. That's a lot of the RISP difference.

Yep. They both need to be replaced going forward.

I like players who are clutch. Smith is the opposite. Also, Joey has better numbers by a considerable margin when playing 1B. Maybe he is more engaged and focused. Yes, it is a small sample size but next year use him as a placeholder for Morales who I would hope will be ready for 2025.

I think what JCA is saying is that there is no such thing as consistently clutch other than for some top hitters. Neither of these guys is that.

OK, so who do you use as a placeholder and doesn't Joey deserve a chance at 1B to start the season? Look how long we kept Dickerson and how many other FA that we dumped over the past seasons.

Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic for me. Joey is better offensively. Dom at defense. Neither is that good. If Joey plans 1B who is the DH start of the year?
