we spent our last day at Hapuna Beach on the Big Island. It's easily the most beautiful beach I've ever visited. Pictures on the web don't do it justice. Great waves, crystal clear water, no jelly fish. The highlight of the trip though was hiking Kilauea Iki in Volcano National Park on the Big Island, a roughly 1 mile or so wide, 400' deep crater that was the site of a massive eruption in 1959.
here's a pic, note the size of the people along the trail down the middle. The mound to the upper part of the trail was formed by lava that spewed about 1,900' into the air. Beyond the trees behind the mound lies the Halemaʻumaʻu crater in the larger Kilauea Caldera. The crater is currently home to a pool of lava and is an absolutely amazing site after dark.
