Was it that they only care about us and NY?

Mostly NY.  Boston was mentioned as an afterthought at the very end of the report after them saying how rare and unusual it was for NY to get a hurricane for about the dozenth time.

We are in Arlington.  Will go to OBX next Saturday morning for fun or fright

That boat is too slow to make it very far at this point, particularly against the current on the Hudson.  I was pretty surprised when I called her this morning that they hadn't started back up the river a couple of days ago.   Are you in NC?

Irene is hitting at 8pm just half an hour before my Aristocrats tickets. I cannot pass up the last Cherry Red show but the timing could be better. Granted rain gear will render trash bags bags unnecessary.

It's been raining and gusting all morning, but it just got consistent within about the last hour here.  I went out for lunch, nothing much to see yet, just a lot of road debris, a few small branches, etc.  I've already talked to three people who've lost power, not sure how exactly since most of the lines around here are underground.

The wunderground radar shows the outer swirls of the hurricane hitting Richmond right now.

It's the 90 foot tulip poplars in my back yard that concern me. The only preparation one can do is move the house. I also worry that I might find my koi in my neighbor's yard (or on her BBQ grill). And I hate  power outages. This time, in addition to batteries, water, radio, etc., I have new book lights. Man must be able to read at night.

That tub is probably going to sink.  I hope they smarten the freak up and pack an overnight bag post haste.
