At this point -- whatever you can get. Never thought I'd even think about this -- the time is right to shop Max around (did I just say that?).  That's the sort of difficult decision a team caught in the middle needs to make.
You'll never get more for Max than right now.

Bukauskas has electric stuff but injury concerns. He has three plus pitches. At worst, you were looking at a dynamite reliever.

Here's the thing: The Nats have no pitching prospects. Mason Denaburg is the closest they have to one and hes a crap shoot at this point. They have three top 100 prospects (at the start of the season) and then a dearth of anything notable after that.

And those non-top 100 prospects are the ones Rizzo uses to bolster the team. It's how you end up with a Trea Turner, Felipe Rivero, and Brandon kintzler

Who needs prospects? I'm kidding but, really, some teams seem to do better with flat-out reclamation projects or castoffs!

time for Cope to put his lyrical skills to good use and put new Nationals destruction lyrics to some of the classic ignition songs like Disco Inferno, Fire, whatever.

So what can we get for Scherzer and Rendon ?

Scherzer's contract is going to be super weird to include in a trade. Lerners will have to eat some money I bet.

at least 4-5 years of the deferred payments.  Those are years he pitched for us, so the Nats will have to pay for them.  But, if they do that, all of a sudden that becomes a very attractive contract.

Keep the players but replace Martinez with a competent manager. The Met series settles it.

What about shooting for a partial rebuild with a quick turnaround.  Say trade Rendon, Kendrick, Doolittle, Suzuki and maybe Eaton.  Next year drop Zimms Taylors and Dozier salary.  Fire Martinez and get a vet manager.   Rebuild in the offseason around Scherzer, Strasburg, Corbin, Soto, Robles, and Turner.  You have Kieboom and Garcia possibly coming up.  Maybe sign a big bat at first, another starter, and go crazy building a top flight pen.  Just wondering if we can dodge a full rebuild and get right back on track.

At the end of this year is when Scherzer's 10-5 no trade rights kick in. So if you were gonna trade Max, you have to do it before the trade deadline.

Things continue like this and I'm sure he'd be open to a trade!

Tampa Bay ought to go all in this season. Max would fit nicely with Snell.

I've seen some online speculation that the Twins would be a good fit, but Tampa does have a ton of young talent.

They'd be a good fit to trade for Renson. Sanchez and Fox outta do it. Maybe some more if they want Suzuki

I will say this... I was surprised Eaton played the second inning. Given that Taylor could have played center and Robles could have moved to the corner, Davey should have sat him.

At some point, when you have the opportunity (when your back isn't against the wall because you have no suitable bench pieces), you have to take a stand, you have to be a manager.

I would try that before blowing the whole thing up

I'm not sure Eaton's $10m options are "ridiculously" affordable, but if that's code for "we're going to be in the rebuild dumpster for a while, so this '97 Saturn will do", then fine

Need a deep, deep rebuild.

Start with Rendon and Doolittle.  If someone will actually take Max's contract, you do it. Same with Stras or Corbin.

Then look to move Turner for a haul.
