The Washington Post reports that Gio Gonzalez will pitch for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. It's a bit of a surprising decision, as Gonzalez is still under investigation for his alleged connection to performance-enhancing drugs. As it currently stands, Gonzalez will join a pitching staff that includes R.A. Dickey, Derek Holland, and Ryan Vogelsong, with Justin Verlander reportedly still considering his offer to play in the tournament. Team USA players are tentatively scheduled to report to training camp on March 3. Source: Washington Post
With international competition, won't he get a few extra PED tests?
Luis Ayala?
Yes, Ayala was one of our most effective relief pitchers in 2005, got injured in the 2006 WBC, and was never the same.
It was worse. He had offseason surgery to remove a bone spur on his throwing elbow, and was rehabbing when the WBC came around. He wanted to pitch for Mexico, the Nats objected, league overruled the Nats and allowed him to pitch. Didn't take too many before he blew out his UCL.
Twitter Adam Kilgore: Boz on Gio: "A knowledgeable MLB insider indicated several days ago that the Nats 'shouldn't worry about it.'Good news.

Gio just cleared of being linked to the clinic, according to a text I received from ESPN.
