I was listening to a podcast about Jansen. He has a first pitch strike percentage of 77%, a FIP of 0.96 and an infinite strikeout to walk ratio 32 K/0 walks.
I know he turned down more money and wanted to stay in LA. But that would be nice to have.

Going deep in the count AFTER starting 0-2.  And the glaring inability to have a 1-2-3 inning. It's like the whole rotation caught 2016 Gio-itis. Yes the bullpen is a tire fire but that's only part of the story. Throw Strike 3 every now and then, guys, seriously, just do it.  They all want to nibble and that's how you end up with some scrub like Dansby Swanson or Freddy Galvis hitting 46 foul balls off you.  Those crappy foul balls are no different than a putaway pitch in terms of your workload. I don't understand why these guys just keep making extra work for themselves.

I noticed yesterday.    Koda had two outs and facing Suzuki.     He's throwing 96 and he's nibblin' the outside corner with breaking balls.       :smh:   If Lobie's callin' that crap, ask him to the mound for a conference.

“We’ll see what’s available at the trade deadline, but right now we have to depend on the guys we have,” Rizzo says.

To be fair, I don't think it is a good negotiating strategy to say, "I Absolutely have to make a deal and it has to be now"

There's no way to replace an entire bullpen.  But that's the only thing we can do.  This season is over.
Just checked and it looks like Nats are 26-17 with a 7 game lead in the division.

But they have slipped to having the second best record in the NL.

Fire Rizzo, I guess.

But that's where he is and everyone knows it. Rizzo has three options:

1. Get the Learners to eat a ton of salary
2. Give away the farm system
3. Do nothing, get bounced in the NLDS again, probably burn the most productive years of the core of the team, and keep prospects and money so that the team can average 84-86 wins in 2019-2022.

So he'll have more negotiating clout when teams know he has to make a deal at the deadline?  They will hang him out to dry.

How about "We're always looking to improve our ball club and will evaluate any deal that's out there."

Is this the Ted Leonsis model then? And if so, should I give a crap about future seasons?

Rivera was never "bailed out".       :couch:

That it happened to Rivera from time to time doesn't make it any less true.

It's early in Koda's stopper role.    He'll be bailed out again.    I'm all in on " by any means necessary".

Ray Knight says that a reliever starts wearing down after 17 pitches.

I like the avatar look.

Thanks, I'm going to have to keep it until we get bullpen help or until the existing guys turn it around.

It'll be nice to see if the bullpen can settle down now that Glover has been anointed closer.  All those guys who like roles can settle in.  But yes, another arm in the pen would be good.  On FG, I think Sawchik yesterday on a chat speculated the cost of Hand would be a prospect in the 50- 100 range.  I'm not sure I give up Soto for him, but I wonder if C-Kieboom would be reasonable.
