Well, the distributor is a close friend of mine.

haha, I knew we'd get to the bottom of this eventually.  I doubt the distributor can get it that cheap.

Blue - you haven't been to the Dogfish Alehouse in Falls Church or Chantilly, have you ?

NO. Too far from home, I don't think it would be wise to have a couple of 90 minutes and drive. And less than a couple would be wrong.

I read somewhere that at the Dogfish pub one can have the 120 passed through a tube full of hops before it hits your glass.  Damn.

I have not seen that at the Dogfish Alehouses in the DC area.  But in Rehoboth, they do something like you describe.

I've seen them do that on a show on the History Channel.  I bet that's tasty as hell!

that (possible) gimmick reminds me of the bullcrap i saw in dallas last week. we were at this bbq hootersy type place called twin peaks (didnt really foresee the double meaning before deciding to go there while cruising strip mall hell).  anyway, they advertised their fridge temps on a digital readout. BELOW freezing.  got down to like 29 degrees.  i guess they just assumed colder is better. i'm pretty sure sam adams wouldnt appreciate a beer iceberg in his octoberfest.

Dallas is a cultural wasteland. Awful. Try finding a non-chain restaurant. It can't be done.

Y'all don't like 17 points of flair?

And without Dallas, there would be no Neiman Marcus plutonium prince alberts...

During my two years in Dallas, we went to a couple of parties at the home of the guy who designs the Neiman Marcus christmas displays.  I will say that their house was, while modest in size for that part of Dallas, exquisitely appointed.

So where is the best beer place in DC, in terms of selection and quality ?

The Brickskellar at P St & Florida Ave near Dupont Circle has literally thousands of different beers from around the world.

RFD by Verizon center has lots of draughts, including some cask conditioned ales.

The Black Squirrel in Adams Morgan has a good selection...it's around the corner from my house, so I go there 'every once in a while' (haw haw).  A liter of Hofbrau is a great way to wash down your half-price burger on Thursday nights.

Good start but Birreria Paradiso (beer & pizza), Brasserie Beck (has Belgian's no one else does), Granville Moore's (killer frites), Red Derby (all cans) all deserve a mention.

I like Rustico in Alexandria for pizza and they have a great tap selection.  Rustico just opened a new place somewhere in DC  and will be coming to the Ballston area of Arlington next year.

I'll have to check out Rutico D.C.; hopefully it is just as good.

If I'm not as concerned about the massive beer selection, my favorite pizza places are Two Amy's, Pizzeria Paradiso, and this hole in the wall place in Laurel, MD which I can never remember the name. There's also a Chicago style thin crust one off Dupont circle which has its moments but has been inconsistent.

I know the beer brain trust tends to dismiss Capitol City Brewery as a tourist trap and yuppie graba$s joint, but their Prohibition Porter is pretty good.

Extra credit for any joint that will fill your own "growler" with their beer, cheaply.  I used to do that at the Shirlington location pretty frequently.
