Oh Canada - Blue Jays fly into Nats Park

Could be a tough series.

Reminder that tonight is an Apple TV game.  Wonder if daughter and SIL have Apple TV?

just as well it's apple tv because I'll be watching college lacrosse tonight.

Moved the lacrosse discussion to the other sports / red loft thread.

Good opportunity for Corbin to get back on track. I went to Rogers Centre last weekend, attended a couple of games of Jays vs Dodgers-- the Jays could barely get a hard-hit ball in each game. They have major holes in their lineup, so Corbin can take advantage of that.

Seems like the Blue Jays' window is about to slam shut without ever getting to really do anything with it. Tough to be in a division like the AL East.

I'll take that as a compliment; I saw that some guys were satisfied from Corbin's start last night in the GDT thread-- to which I say, do not get your hopes up for Corbin, because the Jays' current lineup is mediocre. Vlad & Bo & Springer are all having trouble hitting.

They had a great GM almost a decade ago (AA), he's the one who built their great 2015 & 2016 teams. Ultimately, he didn't see eye-to-eye with Shapiro (their team president) so he left for Atlanta. Now they'll probably end up being sellers at this year's deadline.

they seem to be getting very little offensively from the players at the top of the order: the big FA Springer, the home growns Bichette and Vladito. Guys like  Varsho are producing well, getting Danny Jansen back helps, and they are getting some nice play out Ernie Clement. Turner is hitting well too, not a surprise. Davis Schneider and Clement are having nice runs, but if the top 3 are hitting like 7-8-9, and you play IKF, that's a lot offensive holes.

Kikuchi has been their best starter, and the Nats beat him in his start. Gausman is having problems after 3 studly years. his ERA and FIP are up a run or more, he's dropped 3 K/9. BA against is up over .270, which wasn't fatal in 2022 when he 24.4 K%-BB%, but now is much more of a problem when he's at 13.8%. IF we do get Alek Manoah, it'll be his first MLB start after a bad 2023. He's coming off a good AAA start vs Pittsburgh AAA team.

Kikuchi has been their best starter,
In fairness, by ERA and WHIP, Berrios has been their best starter and just won pitcher of the month. If they decide to keep him on 5 days, then he could pitch Sunday rather than Manoah. He's benefited from an absurd strand rate - 96.6% - more than making up for a big drop in Ks. His BB rate is slightly up, but he has had a .060 drop in his BABIP keeping his WHIP low. FIP is right on league average.

Golden says Manoah will be back to start tomorrow.
