Corbin out with back spasms. I wonder if Gore takes his next start.

Does not quite line up. I think Gore makes another AAA start. Nats want him to go about five or six innings, and then one start in the majors.

Meanwhile, Cruz still has a problem with his left eye. From today's Post:

Quote
How did Nelson Cruz feel after batting practice Monday? Martinez said Cruz was having trouble focusing out of his left eye while hitting. He has been sidelined with eye inflammation since Sept. 13 and has been taking medicine to address his vision. Martinez said the team will reassess Cruz’s status in a day or two.

article on Doo's recovery.  He is progressing to the point he'll be able to start throwing 3rd week in October.

If that goes well, bullpens are penciled in for mid-to-late January. If those go well, he hopes to show teams video and data that illustrates progress. And what he hopes more than anything is that the Nationals call again.

Oh good, so he'll be back with the team in time for the World Series!  :?

The last 6 weeks have at least been entertaining.

Calf strain for Robles, Abrams getting an MRI on his left shoulder.

"CJ Abrams to undergo left shoulder MRI
Abrams exited Game 2 of Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Mets in the bottom of the second inning after making a diving attempt on defense in the prior frame. He was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday before the season finale.

“He fell pretty hard,” said manager Dave Martinez. “Hopefully it’s just mild soreness.”

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/10/nelson-cruz-to-undergo-eye-surgery.html - 6-8 week recovery.
you have to wonder how he passed the Nats physical when they signed him if the eye inflammation was the thing impacting his downturn in Tampa.  The Nats seem to have been burned multiple times by signing guys with injury red flags that they ignored. Strasburg being the most impactful, but the $15 million spent on Cruz could have been invested better.

Yep. Though the claim of a year and a half is awful convenient. He didnt say anything when he got to Tampa? Didnt get it checked out in the offseason?

yes, it's really convenient, and it wasn't bad enough to stop him from having guys throw 95+ MPH fastballs at him, sometimes near his head. I can see him not wanting to get it looked at at the time of his trade to TBR, and that's an organization that I wouldn't expect to be shoddy on its physicals.  I can also maybe see him not wanting to do anything during the off-season due to the strike and his unsigned status, so it is plausible that this has been there for a while, he kept his mouth shut, fought through it until he couldn't.

Not an eye doctor but I think swelling that impacts vision is kind of unusual for someone that age unless he was in an accident. I have scar tissue and swelling in back of my eyes but that is from surgeries.

If he is having surgery then it seems like a legitimate thing. No doctor is going to do surgery for fun.

Im not saying its not legit. Im just wondering how he went a year and a half, with three different teams, and is just now dealing with it

Could be something progressive.  I assume that vision tests are part of any physical so he must have passed those on Tampa and DC.

Ok, I missed that.  Yea, he may just be trying for another contract to make it sound like this is the cause of his downturn.

Cruz is not Sam Rice, Washington pitcher who became an outfielder at 27 and finished with 2987 hits, lifetime BA of .322, OPS of .801, and OPS+ of 112. Retired after his age 44 season because he had only hit .293 in 335 at-bats. If only the AL had had the DH in 1935...

So long Nelson Cruz. Good bye to any DH who cannot field a position.
