Disappointment requires some sort of expectation.  Anyone expecting anything other than maybe a first round playoff exit has been enjoying the smell of glue a bit too much.

Pinguins just beat the Red Wings 5-3 in regularion...so that helps...

I was openly rooting for the flightless birds...and I feel dirty now...

This is good team without the dead weight.  The kids are balling.   Kuemper was the sole reason we aren’t looking at a 4 seed

4 seed?  They are basically 4th in their division.  First three make it in each division and the two wild cards.  First two rounds of playoffs are within the division.

Minus 27 on goals this season. They are having a bit of pick luck.

So would you rather have Ovie get ten more goals this year or the Caps make the playoffs?

I don't know. I find it hard to see them getting out of the first round given the potential opponents. If the season ended right now as I type this, they'd be the second wild card and they'd play the Bruins in the first round. All things considered, the Bruins might well be the first-round opponent against whom they have the best chance. The other possibilities: Right now, if they finished third in the Metro they'd play the Hurricanes, against whom the Caps have not played well at all this year (or last year). The Rangers are four points ahead of the Hurricanes in the standings and would face the first wild card. The other team competing for first in the Atlantic Division is the Florida Panthers, and the Caps haven't done all that well against them this year either.

I’m with you. Even though it’s supposedly not a great draft the higher the pick the better the chance of hitting on it.

NHL playoffs are such a crap shoot though, and the Caps have had some great goaltending this year. If they come into the playoffs hot, who knows what would happen.

Bruins have been beaten by 8 seeds a couple of times. Didn't the Caps do it? The Panthers did it in2023

I believe the Caps have been beaten when winning Presidents Trophy.  Although maybe second round.

Bruins, Panthers, Rangers and Canes all look very strong.  Hard to picture getting by three of those teams.  If they were in the West might agree.

Didn't Boston have the winningest season ever last year and get knocked out early?

yes, by the Panthers. Panthers had an awful regular season and barely made the playoffs but have been near the top of the league the past 3 years in terms of talent.

Yes but you would have to beat three of those teams probably (or maybe the Leafs) to make the Finals.

We got Halaked in the first round by Montreal in 2010...in Game 7 at home after being up 3 games to 1 (I was there).  Brutal.

Word on Twitter (repeating what TSN reported) is that former Caps player Chris Simon just killed himself at age 52. Apparently he was showing signs of CTE.

That's really sad.  He was a big part of the Caps first Cup run and apparently had to overcome a lot to get anywhere, let alone to the NHL.
