Obviously a lot of season left. Of guys still considered prospects, I'd assume Eury Perez, Jordan Walker, and possibly Elly De La Cruz graduate.

I'd expect Chourio, Holliday, Mayer, and Wood to be the top 4 on most lists. At the rate he's going, Holliday will be the consensus #1. Mayer is an SS and Chourio a year younger than Wood at AA, so I'd think that gives them an edge in slotting.

So I'd say top 5, maybe as high as #2 on an individual list.

I wouldnt rush him either but there's obviously a benefit to him being up day one and the shot at an extra draft pick. Have to weigh that vs the extra year of control vs the possibility of losing both if he comes up in May and still finishes 1 or 2 in ROY voting.

We saw enough of Eury Perez in 2012 and 2013. Flopped.

Maybe we should've tried him on the mound.

Rizzo probably didn't think of that. Another Rizzo player development mistake??

Internet makes it hard to read sarcasm. Eury Pérez already pitched against the Nats this season.

Hmmm. I hope it's not necessary to wave a big flag saying, "This is a joke", especially when I pointed to our own 33-year-old failed prospect. And even posted our Eury's Baseball Ref entry...

I remember when the second Greg Harris showed up. At least the Romans had the common courtesy to apply appellations in such circumstances.

Also when they conquered a new region.

the thing about Greg Harris was that one was an ambidextrous pitcher so he was sort of a second Greg Harris by himself

That's what I expect from people here! Someday, I'll tell about a baseball card I got in the late 1950s for a pitcher named Sam Jones, usually called "Sad Sam Jones"...and finding that Sad Sam Jones had also pitched in the 1920s and into the 1930s for, among others, the Washington Nationals that I called "the Senators". He was "Our" Sam Jones, and Shirley Povich must have mentioned him. An even bigger puzzle because "my" Sad Sam Jones, a good starting pitchers for the Cardinals and Giants, had pitched in the Negro Leagues.

Again, if he can stick at center like the Law tweet I posted earlier seems to indicate, it's a superstar ceiling.

Don't generally chain posts because it's kinda unseemly, but I just want to add that Rizzo might've done well in the trade. Everything that compelled the trade was quite bad, but uh...the return looks to have been really good.

Icing on the cake would be to sign Soto, too.

My Double A rule for excitement is a stringent one. James Woods is a couple good weeks from me starting an "EXTEND WOOD" topic in the Clubhouse.

CBS RJ Anderson has Wood at #7 in their updated rankings.

https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-prospect-rankings-top-25-players-re-ranked-with-jackson-holliday-elly-de-la-cruz-at-the-top/

EDLC, Perez, and Walker will likely graduate pushing Wood in line for #4 overall if he keeps it up.

Just a little article on Wood from Yahoo:

https://sports.yahoo.com/the-juan-soto-trade-left-big-shoes-to-fill--enter-6-foot-6-center-fielder-james-wood-225351336.html
nice. I find it interesting about how they describe his IMG senior year. It sounds like there was almost an absence of due diligence by scouts in dismissing his range in CF and accounting for his strike zone expansion. In another sport, Bill Belichek makes it a point to go over film with guys he's interested in drafting and asking them to explain their assignments on particular plays and what they were thinking.  It sounds like Wood was deliberately expanding the strike zone. I'd think that would be something a scout would have asked.
