This guy doesn’t need to be playing

You have been on his case for awhile. Just thought I would throw come basic stats at you. Also factor in the size of their contracts.

     2023       AB'S   HR's    BB     K      BA     OPS

GALLO           282    21      48    142   .177   .741

ROSARIO       478    21      34     122   .255  .755

I'd rather go with Rosario if I had to choose between either.

the same  number of homers in 200 fewer ABs. near same OPS. Gallo is the better defender and at the same position and plays another.

Look at BA. I would rather have offense and davey has played him in CF.

They're both pretty bad but I'd prefer Gallo. We have enough players with empty batting averages as it is.

About the time we need to make a decision on Rosario is about the time Menses, Winker, and/or Gallo will also need to be decided. No reason to press until then

Rosario’s rank among active players with at least 70 PAs:

wRC+ - 249th
WAR - 249th
AVG - 250th
OBP - 250th
SLG - 249th
OPS - 249th
Hits - 250th
RBI - 248th

there are something like 13 × 30 players or 390. Many will not have had 70 PAs. How many players have qualified for this ranking

Good question. I'm playing around with the MLB.com and it will only let you select qualified players based on ABs, not PA's. They show 182 players. Rosario doesn't yet qualify as he's only had 68 ABs (cut off is 70).

Just looking at that pool, Rosario would rank last in average (behind Joey Gallo), last in OBP, and last in slugging.

There's 250 players with 70 PAs, soon those stats, Rosario is last or pretty near it.

https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&type=8&season=2024&month=0&season1=2024&ind=0&qual=70&pagenum=9&pageitems=30

One of the othrr bottom dwellers is Jose Abreu, who has been sent down to the instructional league. Castellanos is also a bottom dweller on WAR , but that is because he's piled up a lot of innings on his D component

Actually true.  Gallo is 250 out of 250 in K rate, with a 6 percentage point lead.

Gallo is infinitely better than Rosario, and that is scary

Gallo is #181 on the same list that has Rosario near last.

The quotes from Davey about giving him more chances aren't surprising, but show how this team will play contracts and favorites over the best available player.

I view Rosario like Dickerson last year. Hopefully not as long a string, but they will keep on trotting him out and see if they can get him going. There are two ways they move off of that. One way is if somebody, most likely Wood, kicks the door in. HE's cooled some, so that's less likely than we thought earlier. The other way is if they wake up and decide to aim for .500 or better and a WC run and decide to play the best lineup.

Main problem I see is even if he continues his torrid May pace through to the deadline his April was so atrocious his overall line will still be middling by the trade deadline. In 2021 the Braves got Rosario with a typical Rosario stat line at the time for a washed up Pablo Sandoval. I don't see how the Nats will be able to flip him for anything of value.

He can help the Nats win games in the meantime though I suppose.
