MLB Scouting Report:Astacio will be making his fifth start for the Padres this season after coming over from the Texas Rangers. He is 2-10 with a 6.06 ERA for the season and 0-5 with a 5.97 ERA on the road. Though he has never started at PNC Park, he is 8-4 with a 5.03 ERA lifetime against the Pirates.
Drese will face the Padres for the first time in his career. In his last start, Drese's sinker wasn't in top form as he gave up four runs -- three earned -- in four innings against the Braves. The first run was scored in the third inning. With a runner on third base and one out, Chipper Jones hit a ground ball to third baseman Vinny Castilla, who threw to catcher Brian Schneider. But Schneider let the ball go by him for an error, allowing Rafael Furcal to score on the play. The Braves scored three more runs off Drese in the fourth inning as Jeff Francoeur hit a one-out solo home run and Marcus Giles drove in Ryan Langerhans and Rafael Furcal with a two-out double to left field.
