Let's face it, Balester is a fringe caliber MLB pitcher. For all the talk or whining about how great our farm system is (and our pitching was supposed to be the strength) we have a ton of back of then rotation starters and by back of the rotation I mean 5th starters.
it has been disappointing.

we are left with 1 bonafide Major League starter at the current point in time.

Martis and Detwiler got off to good starts with the Nats but then faded. Stammen did the same. Balester, Mock, and Martin have each had like 1 good start apiece and that is it.

A lot of the lesser known guys in AA are doing well (Arnesen, Mandel, Meyers, Atilano).

We have a boat load of relievers in AAA that are on their way to the bigs though. That is a positive.
