Spencer Strider today underwent an MRI that revealed damage to the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He will be further evaluated by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, TX, at a date yet to be determined.

I was at his first start at Nats park sitting down the 3rd base line. The movement on the slider was shocking. He had been known for his velocity on his fastball, but the slider was wow.

Actually we could be 8-8 if it weren't for Finnegans choke job and taking it further into fantasy land we could be 9-7 if Law didn't blow up in Oakland. That would put us in 2nd place behind the Braves..

This is not a bad team. I just don't see a 10 game improvement due to the SP. I got caught up with the hype on Woods , Crews, House, Hassell etc. When I came back to earth I only see Woods and House as major pieces with House coming up early next year to join Woods who will we here this year. Young and Lipscomb are good back ups but not everyday players. I am keeping my eye on Lile and Pickney and possibly Vaquero. What we are sorely missing is pitchers and given Rizzos' MO he will likely  trade and sign FA like Scherzer, Fister , Gio, Corbin etc.

You guys crack me up.  It’s a 70 win team at best. The pendulum swings so wide here. The important thing is player development.  Sure wins are fun but watching Abrams get better and hopefully Crews and Wood later this year. And Cavalli. Adams seems better offensively than Keibert.  But both are brutal defensively.  It’s hard to have a contending team with that type of catcher defense.  Maybe Millas is the answer?  Garcia hitting has been nice. Gore has great stuff. Buy hard when your number one can only go five innings.  Need two innings of relief to get to Harvey/Finnegan.  Gray is a big question mark.  And then by the time the team contends Harvey and Finnegan will likely be gone so have to find late inning guys.  Long way to go. Really better off finishing near the bottom and getting another high draft pick.

Braves doing it on hitting. Phillies on pitching. Mets actually have balance. It’s early of course.

I'm somewhere in the middle.  I wouldn't say 70-win team at best, but I also wouldn't realistically pick them to go 81-81.  I'd say 70 wins is a realistic prediction, and 81-81 would be a best case scenario.

i think this is the worst this team will be this year. It will only get better when Crews and Wood arrive and Cavalli is back.

I just don't think Crews will arrive this year unless it is a September call up. Can someone weigh in on September call-ups. Is it still one pitcher and one position player?

That's the roster expansion for September. That's roughly right. However, Crews can come up in late August and still be RotY eligible in 2025. I think that's likely. In Harrisburg until mid'May, then AAA for 3 months.

Was it somewhat appropriate that, in today's game, a player called Bender should pitch in a game featuring Miami and San Francisco?... ;)

I agree.  It will be better also when we get rid of Rosario and Senzel

I wouldn't necessarily assume that Cavalli will have an immediate (positive) impact.  TJ recovery is better than it used to be, but combining that with still learning how to pitch in the majors can cause some initial struggles.
