Re: 2021 Minor League Season

MLB and its agreement with the Minors (MILB) expired on 09/30/2020. MLB is realigning and reconfiguring the minors. They are expected to have 120 minor league teams starting in 2021. In 2019, there had been 162. So, roughly, 42 teams getting the boot - or maybe 45 as it seems that there are 3 teams being purchased from the independent leagues (Somerset, NJ, St. Paul, MN and Sugarland, TX). MLB has not announced even what leagues will be returning. I've read that MLB will unveil its plan on Dec 1st.

Frederick was on a list floated earlier of teams getting the boot.

There are expected to be 4 levels: AAA, AA, High A and Low A.

This is up to date with what I have seen announced so far. I have not included minor league teams owned by their MLB partner.

As has been suggested elsewhere, I think the only boot Fredericksburg would get would be to low-A. It showed its value as the alternate site this year with the new park, and the distance cannot be beat for organizational purposes.
