Why won't they let Locke walk them? Jeff Locke stone cold stinks.

But you can't do that to veterans can you? Unless you waive them?

Exactly. They have to accept the assignment or accept being outright released.

It's the same as waiving a player as you suggested.

Got it.

Think Dan Uggla...that's Gio for us...only way is to release him...

Gio's stuff is down across the board from where it was in 2012. He's not that old yet. He should still be in his prime. It doesn't make sense.

on their options.  If they have minor league options they can.  If not they have to waive.

I do believe

I don't believe that.

Why not? Marlon Byrd turned his career around there.

If they accept outright release you don't have to pay them, right? Then they can be signed for a cheaper contract?

Mark Zuckerman ‏@ZuckermanCSN 6m

Might want to cover your eyes, but here goes: Over his last 9 innings, Gio Gonzalez has thrown ... 204 pitches.

Once their options are used up they have to accept the demotion or be waived.

No you're stuck with that contract, unless a team claims them off waivers. Only in the NFL does it work that way.

DFA Gio. Promote Treinen. Sign someone else (hopefully another Fisteresque signing) in the off season.

Byrd spent time in Texas and Chicago so it's not the same thing. Also, Byrd's father hasn't been caught purchasing diet pills yet.

Gotcha. So Uggla continued making the same pay? Harsh.

Right. The Barves are on the hook for the rest of his contract.

Why couldn't Gio stop the bleeding. If the score was still 1-0, we'd still have a chance but he had to give up the second and third runs right away.

Clint Hurdle won't let Jeff Locke lose this game.  If there is even a hint of a big inning, Locke is out.  Three runs gives him a chance to stop the big inning.
