FA Cup Round 3 on ESPN+

I'll be watching my favorite football team, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club today as they play Burnley. However, ESPN+ will broadcast games from several of the not-so-famous teams and their not-so-famous stadiums. For instance, I saw a Spurs game at White Hart Lane thanks to an English friend. I suggested we see his team, Millwall, but he said "No. Even though we have a new Den, I would not invite a guest to Millwall at home". Now, at last, a chance to see Millwall at their Den.

Incidentally, our Josh Harris is part-owner of Crystal Palace. They played to a (mostly) lethargic draw against Everton yesterday. I think Harris could put $500 million that he did not pay to little dan snyder for the Redskins / WFT / Commanders and improve Palace. Their Olise and Eze are pretty good, but the other players look mediocre.

I’m watching Maidstone United versus Stevenege.  Have to look those up.  The only camera they aren’t I have is not far off ground level.  It’s tough when the ball goes from one end to another.

Ok based on some googling.  Stevenage is north of London and plays in League One.  The third level for you gringos.  Maidstone is in the sixth level.  Turned on at the start of second half and Maidstone up 1-0 on a penalty.  Stevanage seems to have much better of the play as you might expect given their levels.

The “Stones” hang on for their first trip to the Fourth Round of the FA Cup.  Beat two League One teams in a row.  They were +5000 to win the Cup pregame according to the announcers.  Not sure who they play next but I will be following.  Great story. Been around for a while but didn’t have their own stadium until 2012.

Yes. In addition to the games they have a show where they bounce around between games.

I switched on Chestefield and Watford.  Chesterfield leading 1-0 and trying for the upset.

Oh well. Watford comes back to take a 2-1 lead in extra time to apparently stop the upset bid.

I watched much of Millwall / Leicester. Fans at The Den only on the lower level, so large belt of empty seats. I had read-up on The Den, learning that Millwall is averaging onl;y about 14,000 fans in their 20,000 seat Den.

Why?

Millwall was all over Leicester for most of the first half...good shots, but no goals. Leicester went ahead 3 - 1 (oops, 1 - 3?) in the second half, eventually winning 3 - 2 (2 - 3?)

The Maidstone game was a joy, seeing fans who could not get seats peaking around trees and bushes on a hill above the stadium. Stevenage looked slicker, but Maidstone scored the goals. I think this was the game where the announcers kept sniping at the play and the players.

Replays available for all the games.

Oh those Milwall fans.

Ah, yes - the Club are regularly fined, by the soccer authorities, for fans racist / sexist / homophobic chanting. Clearly channelling that 1980's ambience... ;)

Looking at the League 2 table, Wrexham has a decent chance of moving up.  Our American celebrity owners will be pleased.

Bristol City Had a shot in extra time, free kick just outside the penalty area, got a head on it but pops it wide and high. Ends in a draw, 1-1.

Wrexham moves on.  Arsenal and Liverpool now.  Battle of the big boys.  I guess they do a blind draw for the matches?

Yes - it's numbered balls in the bag, time (there is no truth, to the rumor, that Man City have a square ball...)

Ipswich, a pretty good Championship (aka, second division team) plays Maidstone. Somehow, Spurs picked out Manchester City.

eh, they were going to have to play them eventually or else rely on someone else to do the dirty work.

In 15 minutes or so, Chelsea play(s) Middlebrough in the Carabao Cup. Wasn't that the Coca Cola Cup and the League Cup a few years ago?
