Strat needs to go 7 innings next game, bullpen is used up for tonight's game.

Thankfully the Brave's bullpen is smoked too. But yes, gonna need a lot of innings out of Stras. Screw the impending shutdown. I don't care if he loses a start, saving the bullpen is worth a lost start here.

I kept staring at Suzuki...then I realized...one out...even if Ugla picks up the ball and tags Suzuki, Tracy is safe at first and the run counts.

Would have Uggla had time to tag Suzuki and then first for a double play? Did get to see much of a replay because MLB Extra Innings switched to the Giants-Dodgers. So I'm not sure where Tracy was at the time.

Gameday says E for Uggla.

seems obivous. but i'dm like to know under what technicality that falls. because i think suzuki is considered out. though it is not a fielders choice. rare moment when the scorekeeper is worth the salary

Needs lots of contact tomorrow. I don't want 12 strikeouts. Just innings.

Looked like it to me, I think he could have run and tagged Suzuki and had time to run to first and beat Tracy, but you never know....would have been close

When I saw the replay, Tracy was only about halfway up the 1st base line. Uggla might have been able to get an unassisted double play.

would have been awesome if uggla tagged suzuki then ran an tagged tracy instead of stepping on the base. that would be a crazy win

I honestly thought Uggla just quit on it, he should have at least tried for the "unassited" double play

Braves think the Nats are just lucky?  Maybe they should just play better?

He's quite possibly the worst fielder in baseball and he's as dumb as a box of rocks. He literally had no idea what to do and just froze. It's not even surprising. Such an Uggla play.

I don't know how you don't score that an error - particularly since he dropped the ball. The only thing I can think of is you can't assume a double play so Nats would have scored/won anyway.

When asked by the reporters, Davey said Uggla's play was to home.

Yup. That is it. Cannot assume the fielders choice either.

Contact doesn't necessarily lead to lower pitch counts and I am tired of people perpetrating this myth with absolutely nothing to back it up.

So, I know the Nats won and that's all that matters, but I really want to understand what happened on that last play before I go to bed.

I didn't realize that the infield was in, which explains why he didn't just throw to second. I guess Dan Uggla was conflicted as to whether to go home or go for the unconventional DP, and decided to resolve the conflict by dropping the ball.
