Clint Everts Yes, Clint Everts.
« Topic Start: August 02, 2008, 12:22:59 AM »
Wondering why I'd start a thread about a career minor leaguer and a 'bust'? Because he really would have been a good pitcher.

I'd never really known what had happened to Everts; other than he was a 'bust'. Well as you all know he had Tommy John surgery. I decided to look through his pre-surgery stats compared to recent ones. This is the end of 03 then 04 for pre. He had surgery in 05.

Average's Before TJ: 3.30 ERA...7.8 H/9...0.64 HR/9...8.05 K/9...1.38 WHIP

Average's After TJ: 4.64 ERA...8.9 H/9....0.47 HR/9...8.71 K/9...1.59 WHIP

He had a very good year in 05 surprisingly so that helped his post surgery stats. And just an add-on to it all he played at the same levels pre and post surgery. So I obviously had a point to all the pain in the ass calculation I did. His numbers have been steadily getting BETTER other than this year which his ERA has slightly become worse. He is a young man at 23 years old and even though he has never played above High A he obviously has all the physical atrributes to be a good pitcher and the stuff hence being a top 8 draft pick. I'm not saying that he will but their is always a chance that in these coming years he breaks-out and becomes something more than a 'bust'. Even if that happens his arm can not handle starting but an ok reliever he can easily be. I would say to not call him an absolute bust until he turns 27.

PS: Being a reliever made his HR/9 go down.

Clint Everts was the prototype for John Patterson and Shawn Hill.

yeah, but even before that, he wasn't ever really healthy, as far as I know.

Still you say there is no chance that he becomes more than just a bust?

I wasn't ever saying that.

I'm just saying that he was John Patterson (talented pitcher, can't stay healthy) before John Patterson was.

Didn't Mike Hinckley have injury problems too?  I wonder what would've happened to the two of them if injuries hadn't derailed their careers.

I think pretty much anyone not scooped up by the rest of MLB when they were picking the franchise apart is suspect for this same reason. Anyone left over practically needs to prove they were misjudged as worthless.

But Hinckley would not have been the pitcher Everts would have.

Just an update: A few games back he wnt 3.1 IP out of the pen, allowed 1 H 1 BB and recorded 8 K's!!!After that he was doing bad for a few games. But the last two nights: 4 IP...1 H...0 ER...2 BB...7 K's. In his last ten games:: 21.2 IP and 29 K's...I see progression!

And don't bother talking sense to me. I will never give-up on Everts, just like Dmitri won't lay-off the Fried Twinkies.

Fried twinkies are almost as good as fried oreos. You have to make them a once a year thing or your blood will solidify.

He is really settling down though his numbers are slowly getting better. He is still very young. He is starting to eat up and striking guys out.

That's okay. We have several posters in hear who still haven't given up on such players as Mike Bacsik and Brandon Watson even though they suck, they aren't in the organization anymore, or all of the above.

Problem is everyone compare Clint to Scott Kasmir since they graduated together from the same high school.
All I know is he a really good kid and is working his butt of to get better.

on the 20th: 1.1 2 H 2 K
on the 24th: 3.1 3 H 2 ER 5 K.

He is K'ing everyone. Next year he lowers his ERa and the year after he gets labled a prospect.

As a 25-year-old in a system w/ as many up-and-comer pitchers as we have? Doubtful.

Blob Wadson has hinted at a callup. If he fits in the bullpen, great. If not, who cares, pass him through waivers.
