Nice walk by Ronnie and then Lopez is up there first pitch swinging.  :bang:

Manny Acta has to order him not to swing on the first pitch after a walk.  That's the only way he won't swing.

Does anyone know how a simulated game works?  What exactly happens?

2-0 count groundout. This is so stupid. 7 runs in the first 2 innings and over the last 5 innings we have zero runs. The last 3 innings we have had the lead-off guy on base only to strand him.

We're not going to win this game with only 7 runs and the later the game goes, the more gutwrenching the loss will be.

From: http://www.slate.com/id/2121262/

It's an informal scrimmage that allows an injured pitcher to test his arm. Simulated games take place at the stadium, with two or three hitters taking turns in live at-bats against a pair of pitchers. (It may happen that both pitchers are recovering from injuries, but most of the time a healthy teammate or coach is recruited for the exercise.) There are rarely any players out in the field, and there's no umpire behind home plate. Either the bullpen catcher or the pitching coach will call balls and strikes and determine what "happens" when one of the hitters puts the ball in play. If it's a hard line drive, they might say it's a "hit"; a weak grounder would be deemed an "out."

The pitcher faces his own teammates until he retires 3 of them. Then he goes to sit in the dugout as he would in a regular game for about 10-12 minutes and he returns to the mound, throws warm up pitches and pitches as he would normally for another inning. Repeat as necessary.

nice play Dmitri. Rivera carves up lefties wonderfully.

Ah, the good old days. I remembered when we swept Seattle and Oakland back-to-back at RFK in 2005. I believe that was part of our 10 game winning streak.

Joel to pitch the 8th? I agree with Sutton that Hanrahan is getting a HUGE opportunity to stick with this team. If I was the GM his ass would be gone a long time ago. Hopefully he throws strikes tonight.

Does anyone else find it funny that they do mlb.tv commercials when, if you are able to watch MASN, you probably won't be able to watch Nats games on mlb.tv.

That hurts. One of about 5000 reasons catchers end up having freaked up knees when they get older.

And you'd end up having to get guys like Jorge Julio to replace him. :?

Not much difference between Julio, Benitez and Hanrahan.

Nah, there are plenty of other Major League relievers that are available every off-season via free agency.
