He's only a top 30 overall prospect as well. If he stays this bad for the whole year he won't be a top 4 prospect of ours next year.

Yay, he isnt really doing well but lets give him untill all star break before really making a judgment. We should take his struggles as a good sign because we wanted to play him in AA ball this year, he definately isnt ready and he is facing quality pitching in high A ball. He is adapting and at his age its pretty normal.

Marrero went 4-9, two doubles, 3 runs and two RBIs during the Salem series over the weekend.

He'll need about 2-3 more years in the farm system.  Not to mention, there's already a log jam at 1st Base with Young, Johnson on down to Bill Rhinehart.  Take a ticket.

Give Marrero time.  Also, Michael Burgess hit homer number 11 last night.  Burgess is only hitting .227, but man, he can whack the ball.

The Nats have Marrero actually in front of Rhinehart - Bill's in low-A ball.  They moved Marrero to first base this year due to Johnson and Young's unreliability and probably Whitesell going to Arizona...guess that doesn't bode well for how long they anticipate using Broadway.

Please. Talk about a hyperbole. The guy is our #1 prospect and will be for the next couple years. He's turned it on recently and I'm sure by the end of the year he'll be close to .300...

I don't agree with that. As far as I'm concerned Zimmermann and VanAllen have passed Marrero.

Maybe, but it depends on how you rank your players.  Batters and hitters and hard to compare.  But if you could, and based on current prodcution there's no question VanAllen and Zimmerman have been doing better than Marrero.  But my bet is that ranking is based on projection over the long term, not what they have done over the last month or two.  I suspect over the long term Marrero is viewed as a probable franchise starter with All-star potential, which is based on the competition level he has faced.  He's starting to pick it up as of late (.386 AVG last six games), but time will tell.  

Sort of like boxing, you really have to convince the judges that a challenger really, really beats the champ in order to win.  In words, you need more time with both excellent and consistant numbers to overtake the #1 or 2 prosepect rank.  A month or two won't do it.  I'm not saying either couldn't do it, but they have quite a mountain to climb.

There's no question VanAllen and Z have stepped up in the Nat's rankings.  So have Zenicola, Rhinehart, and maybe a collection of others.

But what are the odds he actually does become an All-Star and lives up to the hype? VanAllen and Zimmermann have a much greater chance of making it to the big leagues and maybe eventually becoming top of the rotation starters. They are both a year away from playing up here, maybe even even this season.

It's guess work for all these players right now. Frankly, I hope to see all three of these guys being contributors in the future. I don't care who gets here first.

I disagree with that. Marrero is a long, long, long ways away from being ML-ready. Zimmermann and VanAllen are close to ready NOW whether some believe it or not. These guys have dominated in High-A ball and Double-A ball. I suspect they'll be in AAA soon or maybe even the Majors by the end of the year. Both Zmann (Turns 22 on Friday) and VanAllen (23) were drafted out of college so naturally they are more advanced than Marrero who is 19 and was drafted out of High School.

I agree.  No need to rush Marrero.  I think he's going to be a special talent up here one day, but he needs plenty of seasoning and learning experience in the minors.  He needs plenty of at bats and to work on his glove.

Yeah, hes coming around. His average is still .238 but when you look at what he did so far in May, hes making progress. In may he has hit .276 with 5 hr's and 14 rbi's in 84 ab's.
