Washington Redskins Thread (2008-09)
« Topic Start: April 15, 2008, 02:25:48 PM »
The NFL released its schedule today and the Redskins have 3 games that conflict with the Nationals, only 1 of those dates will have both teams playing in Washington at the same time, the Thursday September 4 opening in NY (Nats play in Atlanta that night), September 14 home game against New Orleans (Nats are in Florida that day), September 21 home game against Arizona (the Nats are home against San Diego).

Other than the opener in NY the Skins have two national games, Monday night November 3 at home against Pittsburgh and Sunday night November 16 at home against Dallas.

Unless something more exciting comes up. 11/16 is a flex game. The Skins better play their asses off so I can watch that one.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. That's the first flex week so I doubt they would switch a Dallas/Washington at that point in the season.

How nice is it to actually have draft picks for this weekend? Of course we still have a few days to screw that up. Surely Gibbs would've already given them away for a backup TE or something idiotic like that :?

They tried their hardest to rid themselves of some picks.  The Bengals rejected the Redskins offer of a 2008 1st-round pick and a 2009 3rd-round pick for Chad Johnson.

Yep, I'm glad the Bengals rejected it. I don't want that cancer on this team.  I can't believe Zorn would sign off on such a move in his first year as a head coach.

I had somehow forgotten that Gibbs was gone. My day is going to be that much better now.

We have a lot of options in this draft. I still wouldn't mind trading for Peppers or Chad Johnson, but there are plenty of Defensive Ends in this draft class.

Miami's also looking to trade Jason Taylor, but that might cost us too much.

Need help at DE, CB, WR and OL. We need every draft selection we have right now and make good on each one by finding value in every round.

Would you trade our first pick and a little more for Jared Allen? He's only 26 and would instantly make us A LOT better at the DE position.

No. I don't think that dude will be productive for long. Besides, it would take first round picks in '08 and '09 to get him. He reminds me too much of Grant Winstrom who had a couple good seasons but is now nothing more than a guy with a "high motor". I would prefer our scouting staff to earn their money and find some value in the draft and pickup someone that can become a great pass rusher.

I heard they were taking him but I didn't think they would announce it this early. That puts St Louis on the clock.

Malcolm Kelly would be an awesome pick in the 2nd round. He's a 6'4 WR and can catch basically anything. He's just not very fast. We have enough speed at that position already, though.

2 hours and change until Draft time.  Long and Long will be the first two picks.  I am not sure who the Redskins are targeting.  I hope they don't draft one of those slew of mediocre WRs in the first round.  Drafting WRs in the first round is usually not a smart move. Just ask Detroit how that panned out for them (Charles Rogers, Mike Williams).

They probably will draft a DE unless they trade their selection. They still have time to freak up  :?

Wow, there was a rumor that the Ravens could trade up to 2 just to get Matt Ryan.  That'd be absolutely insane.

I just hope that the Redskins don't piss away any picks and make at least one selection at WR, DE, CB, and anywhere on the O-line.

I would've liked to have seen them select Devin Thomas, but I'll take that.

Now wtf did they get?

If that's the case then we did great! Having 3 2nd round picks is awesome. Those 3 picks have to be converted into starters. That gives us 6 selections in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Edit: Actually only 5 because they wound up switching 3rd rounders in the deal. That was dumb. They should've played hardball but the Redskins are not capable of that :?

Correction: We didn't switch with Atlanta we actually already owed them that pick from the TJ Duckett deal :?  :bang:

Nice.  They'll have five picks in the next two rounds.

redskins.com is having a ridiculous sale - 4 dollar shirts and 2 dollar hats - fyi

they must have 2nd rounders in mind - d-backs and a qb would be nice
