Nationals @ Cardinals, Game 1
« Topic Start: April 04, 2008, 07:04:22 PM »
Game Time: 8:15 pm    TV: MASN    Radio: WWWT 1500, 107.7 FM

Odalis Perez
0-0, 0.00 ERA

Braden Looper
0-0, 0.00 ERA

(SS) Cristian Guzman
(CF) Lastings Milledge
(3B) Ryan Zimmerman
(1B) Nick Johnson
(RF) Austin Kearns
(SC) Paul LoDuca
(2B) Ronnie Belliard
(LF) Willie Harris
(SP) Odalis Perez

Skip Schumaker (LF)
Aaron Miles (2B)
Albert Pujols (1B)
Rick Ankiel (CF)
Troy Glaus (3B)
Ryan Ludwick (RF)
Jason LaRue (SC)
Braden Looper (SP)
Cesar Izturis (SS)

_______________________________________ ______________

Perez will face the Cardinals for the 12th time in his career. He is 3-4 with
an 8.46 ERA against them. Perez is looking for his first winning season since
the 2004 season, when he was with the Dodgers.

Considering the skepticism with which his transition was met, Looper's first
year as a starter actually went pretty OK. He made 30 starts and pitched
175 innings, and for the most part he was reasonably effective. Looper's
ground-ball rate dipped significantly, though, and that's something he'd like
to see change. He doesn't have the kind of repertoire to succeed for long
as a fly-ball pitcher.

No, it isn't a typo: the Cards pitcher is batting eighth.  And it's not Looper, as the pitcher has been penciled in as the 8th batter ahead of Cesar Izturis for all the Cards games so far this year.  I always took Izturis as a light-hitting, defensive speedster of a shortstop; however, I had no idea he's that bad of a hitter

Hopefully Harris can get one of those triples he's known for tonight.

Yeah, LaRussa plans on batting the pitcher 8th every game this season.

Pujols is 13/20 with 5 HRs in his career against Perez.  :hang:

I have a feeling the Nats are going to need to score 10+ runs to win this one.

I think he means Perez has a career 8.66 ERA against the Cards.

Our offense is definitely better than theirs.

Yeah, it should have been obvious to me, but it really looked odd at first.

Shoot, I'm not supposed to be posting in here. I'll be watching later, though. Back to hockey for me.

GET EM!

is this game hrm....nationally televised? or is my TV Guide simply incorrect? I see Nats Extra...and then it says "Off-Air" directly after on MASN.

*edit* NM, the game is on My20.

:(. It's alright. It's not like the top of the Phillies lineup is coming up or anything. :?

I'm telling you all, though, we are going to win. If I'm wrong, no GD threads for me for a week. :D

Hey, ronnynat, get out of here :P

Beefs with the Cards announcers within the first two minutes:

A)  His name isn't BRIAN Zimmerman.

B)  I don't need to hear how the Nats have more talent than their 2008 record will indicate.  The Cardinals are the worst team in the NL IMO.  Shut the freak up.

C)  I don't need to hear how Albert Pujols is "licking his chops" at the prospect of facing Odalis Perez.

Perez is going to get annihilated tonight. He just had some no-name down 0-2 in the count and gave up a double.

2-run HR. That was quicker than I thought. Perez is a terrible match-up for the Cards.

According to the Cards announcers, he's the Cards #1 prospect.
