2IPAs & I have been banned from Rock Bottom.  It's not because we were too drunk or anything like that, but the management there committed fraud in a ticket sale charitable event. We use to let them raffle off a week at our OBX beach house and they sold lots of raffle tickets.  But we began to realize management had made a decision to pre-select the raffle winner.  So we pulled out and 2IPAs can tell you being banned from Rock Bottom was the best thing that could have happened.

I had a growler filled at Rockbottom last summer. They only fill their own growlers. So, the bartender put a Rockbottom sticker on it.

We need to gather a list of the WNFF Homebrewers and have a brew swap.

If that happens I pity whoever gets my newbie brews. :mg:

MadFox in Falls Church makes great beer.  The owner is Bill Madden, who was the brewer at Capitol City for years.
MadFox is now selling their beer in DC at Granville Moore, Big Hunt, and Meridian Pint

You're going to need a few additional tasters.

Really? How do you brew? Kits? Recipes? Winging it with your own recipes?

My average is much closer to 90-95%....

mostly recipes, but I usually add lib spices and extracts - it can either work really well-  a box of crushed kumquats in the boiler along with belgian candi and a trappist yeast made one of my favorite beers of all time, other times not so much. If I follow a standard recipe, I can get what the recipe is going for, but I like to try for stuff that I can't buy and my imagination often gets the better of me.

Sort of like volunteers for a clinical trial.  Giving oneself for science ..

I think you're right, but it should be some people who can drink in moderation.

Initially, having a policy of only refilling the establishment's growlers may have been based in the idea of increasing brand loyalty.  But as soon as a couple of places broke away from that policy, most brewers realized it was better not to require the glass have been from their establishment

i would think most craft beer drinkers have zero brand loyalty. just looking for the next thing

See that is the wonders of homebrewing.  Experiment and be imaginative.  For me though I'm still going mainly off of recipes or lately I have been trying to compile my own.

Brewed my first batch today!   I gave my Dad Mr. Beer for Christmas and he hadn't used it yet so while watching the game and enjoying the AC over at his place I broke it out.

Good for you.  I understand IPAs can be tricky.  But if it's top rated, they must have had success.  How long in fermentation ?

The Mr Beer process is fairly easy, it's the same instructions for every.

7-14 days in the keg, then 7-14 more in the bottles before it's ready, we're going to give it the full 28 days.

you might want to expand those times especially for the time in the fermenter. The only way to really be sure is to get a hydrometer,
http://www.amazon.com/RiteBrew-Hydrometer-Triple-Scale/dp/B000E60U6Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341334122&sr=8-1&keywords=hydrometer
but they're pretty cheap

Minimum 2 weeks in the fermenter, 2 weeks carbonating in the bottle, and 2 weeks conditioning.

Interesting, this is one of those things where we may try it once or twice and quit or else it gets a lot more complicated as we get more adventurous.

Just get a hydrometer - they cost less than $10 and they tell you exactly when to bottle
