yeah this kinda stuck out to me.  what's going on with that, maybe thunderstruck can come back here and fill us in on that one.

He said he was fine here. Had he been allowed to make our opening day roster what portion of  his salary would he have been entitled to?

All. Salaries became vested on MArch 27th.

That's what I figured. He's obviously not well enough to pitch yet here he insisted he was fine.

Thanks blue. Good riddance to Wuss Arm, he won't even pitch in the Minors until May and is playing long toss, but he was A-OK to be our 2nd game starter. WTF?

Uh, he got released, so he wasn't exactly A-OK after all, right?

He hasn't been released by the Rangers. The statement was in regards to the Nats releasing JP.

Correct, and my statement was also regarding the Nats releasing him.  I don't think you can accuse the club of anointing him the #2 starter, if the club in fact releases him before any damage done, is my point.

Vidro just hit a homer against the O's. He's got 2 on the season now.

Church  - PA's - 22; HR- 1; RBI- 5; .381/.409./524
Milledge - PA's - 32; HR- 1; RBI- 2; .267/.313/.400

Church is off to a hot start, not unusual for him.  I expected Milledge to take a while to get going.  His current numbers aren't awful, but I expect much better from him.  Church will cool off, but it will be interesting to see how these two compare offensively over the full season.

Eisler Livan Carrera Hernandez had another pretty solid outing on Saturday in his win against the Royals. 7 IP, 4 ER, 0 BB, and 2 K. Twins won 6-4.

I was refering to his BS announcements that he was ready to go, but also to the club playing along until his release.

According to the article, he is essentially blaming St. Claire and hoping the DBacks old pitching coach (who never got any of his potential to show) will magically fix his wuss arm. The fact that he is not even starting in the Minors, but just playing long toss, shows that he wasn't fully on the level with the Nats.

74 pitches is what stood out.

Yeah, I've always wondered why his pitch counts are always so low. I guess the strategy going in is to swing early against him.

For a guy that throws crap, crap and more crap he sure gets a lot of easy outs.

I'd say "makes you wish we'd re-signed him after all" but seeing as how we can't even put up 2 or 3 runs half the time, his performances wouldn't do us much good on off nights :?

I like Livan. I know he drives many on this site crazy but he seems to be able to pitch every 5th day. People look at his stats and think that he can't pitch but he wins he share of games. When he was with the Nats he was the # 1 guy and had a winning record. He has won too often to chalk it up to being on a good offensive team or getting better than average support.

I think Church will break-out with .280 AVG 25 HR 90 RBI

Definitely possible. Some players thrive when they're surrounded by more talented players. I could easily see him getting over 20 HR.

Jamey Carroll's current batting average is .308 (in a limited number of games and, yes, I realize that they are April stats - although they are also AL stats ;) ). Full disclosure:

G 6, AB 13, R 7, H 4, 2B 0, 3B 1, HR 0, RBI 2, TB 6, BB 4, SO 1, SB 0, CS 0, OBP .526, SLG .462, AVG .308

Wilkie goes from top to bottom

Three years ago he was billed as a face of the franchise, along with Brian Schneider. By the following year Brad Wilkerson was out of Washington. Now he’s looking not to be the face of a franchise, but just to find a permanent home.

Wilkerson, 30, has started poorly for Seattle, hitting .161 in his first 10 games. That’s not the sort of start needed by a player who batted .234 and .222 in Texas the past two years, respectively, and is on a one-year contract.

“It’s a little tough,’’ he said recently. ‘’I started getting my feet wet in Texas and then I come to Seattle.’’

Bad knees have helped derail a career that held some promise. In the three years before Montreal came to Washington, Wilkerson slugged a combined 71 homers with 416 hits. In the next three, he had a combined 56 homers and 290 hits.

Part of him still wishes he was in Washington.

“You always think about that stuff,’’ he said. “It would have been great to be there. Now that they finally got their own stadium and their own franchise, it’s going to go in a positive direction. But, I’m going in a different direction, too, and I’ve got to find positives for me.”

That’s getting harder to do each season.

Just what we need, another sub-Mendoza hitter.
