the updated "az" poll
« Topic Start: December 04, 2007, 06:43:32 PM »
little spoof on the ap poll  ;)

without further ado, it's time to unveil the prestigious, popular, and highly regraded az poll

1. r. zimmerman

2. r. belliard

3. e. dukes

4. l. milledge

5. n. logan

also receiving a vote j. colome

virtually a three-way tie for the #1 ranking between r.z., belly, dukes. it would be unfair and controversial to  already put dukes #1 before he even puts on a national uniform.  :D

i still think he has a place on the team with his speed (fastest player in baseball) and glove. he can be a phenomenal pinch runner and defensive replacement as well as a spot start here and there. he could really inject some life into a rally as a pinch runner or start a rally as a pinch hitter with his knack for bunting.

i'll change my list to power rankings once college football is over, i just did this in spirit of the bcs and how everyone gets on my case about me and my man crushes  also it was necessary due to the additions. people may be confused as to where dukes and milledge stand amongst the rest

Nook may be fast but he sure isn't a good base runner.  He got picked off numerous times last year.  I wouldn't mind keeping him as a 5th OF though because he can steal a bag and bunt for base hits.  He is also a much better overall hitter now that he strictly hits RH.

Logan seems to lack baseball instincts. But you have to laugh at numbers 2, 5 and Jesus Colome  :D

even if you consider them caught stealings he still has a high stolen base percentage

Bascik and Watson are neither rookies nor unproven.

They've both proven quite adequately that they belong at AAA for their careers.

Why don't you include REAL prospects like Marrero, Maxwell, Burgess, Detwiler, Zimmermann, Carr, or Mock?

Marrero and Esmaylin Gonzalez were there insteaed of Watson, but I didnt have any picture of them as a Nationals so I took em off

Nook could be the fastest runner and the best defensive outfielder on the planet, but with teams having shorter benches nowadays, having a late inning defensive specialist and/or pinch runner is a luxury teams cant afford to have, at least not until September call-ups. The Nats might go with 4 outfielders, and neither Logan or Langerhans will be among them. If they do end up with a 5th fly chaser, he'll bat left and have some pop, which again eliminates Langerhans and Logan.

I'm just glad to know that you think Bascik is better than Detwiler.  Makes me proud of this team's astute, young fanbase.

I suggested that to him, but he prefers to keep a 30 year old minor league pitcher (Bacsik) and Cincinnati Reds minor league outfielder (Watson) in his signature instead.

That makes no sense since you would have to drop those players after a successful rookie year, see Ryan Zimmerman.

You all understand he has now jinxed every one of these players.

Someone else pointed that out as well. :?
