It looks clear to me, just play Byrd. If you read the article by Boswell you know the drill but look at the numbers and you wonder what is going on with the team.

Of the outfielders Wilkerson is having the worst of it of late so I would put him on the bench. Have Wilkerson relax and work out the injuries.

If you look at On Base Percentage (OBP) I would have Byrd start off and use Church to occasionally spell him. While Church?s numbers are down they are still slightly better then Wilkerson's.

While I am at it what does it take for Short to get some playing time?

The bad newsis that we will need a new manager who has the guts ( yes I said guts) to play some younger players.  Every day these guys donr play hurts us for next year and hurts our chances this year. It is inexcusable.

Actually, Wilkerson isn't the Nats OF having the worst time of it lately.

OPS in September:

Wilson: 0.818
Byrd: 0.783
Wilkerson: 0.706
Church: 0.625 (only 15 PAs)
Guillen: 0.504

I can see the argument for playing Byrd, but it should be at the expense of Church or Guillen if you're arguing from a "recent performance" perspective. Personally, I'd be playing Byrd at the expense of Wilson, from the point of view that Wilson isn't going to help the franchise in the future; Byrd might. ive him a 2 week trial in CF to see what he can do.

there is no reason for wilson to get any playing time now. Problem is I am dreading looking at the lineup tonight.  Should have zimm byrd church short or at least most of them in it.  Wild card is over.  Maybe the youngers guys will get hot but the old boys are done.

I agree with you. The Nats should be starting as many young players as possible to give them a trial and see what they can do. Start Zimmerman at 3B. Play Byrd and Church in the OF. And it's almost criminal that Harris isn't with the team - he deserves a shot as well. But with frank at the reins, we'll see the vets starting and the kids on the bench.

As srvluga just put it. With 11 to go and 5 out if we won out the Astros would only have to go 6-5 to tie.  Let the kids play.
