Curt Schilling doesn't want us!
« Topic Start: October 31, 2007, 05:27:00 PM »
In his letter to his current, and soon to be ex, teammates he listed 12 teams he'd consider playing for next season:

In the AL, he'd go to Cleveland, Detroit and the Angels.  In the NL, it's New York Mets, Philadelphia, Atlanta, the Dodgers, San Diego, Arizona, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis and Milwaukee.

Boo hoo.  No Nationals.
What on earth are we to do now that we've been rejected by, without even asking for, a 41 year old pitcher???  :'(

That actually makes me very happy, because he's been getting worse every season. Why anyone would want him on their staff at this stage of his career, is a head scratcher. I wouldn't want him even as a one year experienced veteran to help the younger pitchers.

Even though I'm in agreement that we shouldn't get Schilling, it still is pretty sad that that 41 year old pitcher is better than any of our guys. :?

I want a pitcher we can count on for 200 innings in 2008...
That will include NONE of the above.

I'm not for hiring an over-40 pitcher no matter how wonderful he is (or thinks he is).
I sent the article to my brother the Red Sox fan and he immediately fixated on "At least he was loyal enough to not to want to go to the Yankees." Those people are obsessed! Schilling may be in for a rude awakening when he leaves the Boston bubble.

Ever hear of the Mike Hampton curse?

On November 15, 2002, he was traded from the Rockies to the Marlins.  He whined and fussed about how he hated the Marlins and wanted to be with a team that had some potential and threatened to invoke his no-trade clause by the November 22 deadline unless Marlins worked out another deal.  November 18, he was shipped off to the Braves (who then decided they no longer needed Glavine).  The Marlins went on to have a pretty decent 2003 season without him.

Here's hoping history repeats itself for Schilling.
