ATLANTA, Aug. 29 -- John Patterson had long ago settled into his pregame mode, the headset from his iPod deep in his ears, when Monday night's game between the Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves was postponed because of rain. This is no insignificant matter, mind you, for Patterson's pregame ritual takes some getting used to, and expends much energy, and if he's going to get that worked up to pitch, then, well, he might as well pitch.
