Third outfielder?
« Topic Start: August 11, 2007, 12:59:20 PM »
Picture this scenario: we get Dunn (who has stated he's much rather be traded to the Nats then any other team).  We need to keep starting Kearns, since he's signed to a multi-year deal, and outperforming all the players on the poll list.  Who would you want to start in center, with Dunn in left?  Logan, Church, Langerhans, or someone else inside the organization (Other)?  For the purposes of this poll, free agents are excluded.

My vote: Langerhans.  Center field is one of the most important defensive positions in baseball, behind catcher and shortstop IMO.  Langerhans, although not as fast, gets better jumps on balls.  Logan's speed is wasted on the basepaths because he's a terrible baserunner (not talking about stealing).  Watson, although hot when promoted, doesn't seem to be able to consistently play the game well IN THE MAJORS.

I went other but I don't know who that other can be at this point in time. I like what Logan has been doing lately and I would like to see what Watson can do over a period of time but I'm just not sure about either of those over the long haul. I definitely don't want the other 2 playing everyday in CF.

logan has been playing well lately and if he settled down and stopped worrying about trying to make it into the lineup, some of his bonehead mistakes might go away.

aside from the cleveland game what has he done that has been boneheaded? i really dont know, i've been away for the past week

i know he got picked off, but if you just consider that a caught stealing, he still has a pretty good steal rate.  every now and then you get picked off. if that allows you to be more successful stealing, so be it.

i cant find pickoff stats, but he is 16/19 stealing. even if his is picked off twice, he is still above the 75% threshold, picked off three times, he is just below.

i think we need to look at nook since he gave up switch hitting and stopped platooning.  i'm very surprised this has worked for him.  i thought he was hitting crapily lefty because he was god awful hitting righty against righties. but hey it seems to have worked thus far.

i did vote "other" however, because i would like to see us get a stud there.  if we had more studs we could deal with logan in center.

Did you seriously say Langerhans? Wow.  He is probably the worst hitting outfielder in the Majors.

In the absence of other - I chose Logan - he's been doing much better at the plate these days and his speed is a real difference maker ... (loving the wheels at 1 & 2 with him and Lopez)

It's a good thing that was a joke because Brad Wilkerson is a joke in my book.

2k6, Dunn would play right.  Kearns is left.

Why?  Dunn is a left fielder, Kearns is a right fielder.  Yes, Dunn played right field last night, but he IS a left fielder.  Besides, Kearns has never played left in his career.

Where does it say Dunn wants to play for us more than any other team?

And as for who I want in Center, thats easy Elijah Dukes.

Adam Dunn is a left fielder, period.

Austin Kearns, when acquired, switched from center to right, so he can play both.

I choose none of the above.

let's see Justin Maxwell.

I surprised myself and said OTHER.

I love Church but he is a corner guy.  Langerhans and Watson I am done with and really hope we stop wasting roster space and time with them next season.  Logan has improved recently but such a small sampling of "good Logan" is not enough for me to jump on that bandwagon.

I think I'd prefer to see what else we got.  Its getting later in the season and call ups will be here soon enough.

Maybe if he stops sucking.

I'll go with "Other" aka let's sign Aaron Rowand. :)

Ok, On the one hand, I know he's having a good year and all ... but the last thing I want is a frickin philly stinkin up the joint ...  besides phillies are notorious chokers - <see the bottom of the 9th, bases loaded, down by 1 in the all star game - stupid LaRussa, should have PH Pujols> ... on the other hand, I recognize of course that rowand would be a big upgrade ...

Actually, with Rowand, it would really depend on the money.  If we can get him at a decent price, I think we should go for him.  If not, maybe consider Mike Cameron or stick with Dunn/Church/Kearns with Nuke as a 4th (if he keeps up his sufficient hitting that we've seen as of late).

I really wanted us to get Byrnes, but the D'Backs locked him up recently. :?
