PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 15 -- When he was removed from his start against the San Diego Padres on Aug. 5, Livan Hernandez tossed his glove into the stands at RFK Stadium, an act of disgust at his performance and frustration in being removed. A fan scampered out of the stadium that night with the glove, even though team officials made several pleas to get it back.

Last night, after he pitched the Washington Nationals to a 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, Hernandez said the fan wants an elaborate package in return for the glove: season tickets next year, playoff tickets this year -- and $18,000.

"He can have it," Hernandez said. "He thinks it's my lucky glove, but I'm not superstitious."

Hernandez had offered an autographed jersey and a brand-new glove.

that guys sucks.  if livan wanted to punch me in the face to throw a no-hitter in a big game, i'd let it happen.

that guy is not a real fan and should be ostracized (sp?).  we need to find his identity like bartman.

18,000$? season tickets? i dont want this guy in the stadium

Livan is constantly giving things to fans.  If he doesn't get a hit, he gives away his batting glove, sometimes the bat, too.  (must be the glove's fault).

Trying to think like Livan, he threw away the fielding glove that had been directly responsible for his streak of poor outings, and replaced it with a new glove that was directly responsible for his outstanding outing yesterday!

Man, if I'd caught that glove, I'd be THRILLED to return it for another one plus an autographed jersey.

Although I'd probably ask for a team-autographed ball instead of a glove or something.

But $18,000??  What an immense tool.

Well the glove isn't on Ebay yet either.

Wait!!! I feel a song coming on...........

(to the tune of "Don't Pull Your Love Out")

Don't throw your glove out on me baby
If you do then I think that maybe
I'd just have to sell it back for a couple things

Don't throw your glove out on me honey
'Cause I might have to ask for money
And even some '06 season tix.

    LOL!!

Now you've got me humming that tune, can't stop.  (that's a good thing)

Takes me right back to the summer of 1971, family vacation at Blackwater Falls, WV.  Funny how certain songs mark specific places in my memory.  Two other songs of note (for me) from that summer:  Sooner or Later (the Grass Roots) and Take Me Home, Country Roads (Bill Danoff, John Denver).  Bill Danoff (who owns a restuarant in DC) pretty much wrote that song based on his imagination being stirred on a trip out rural Clopper Road, for a family picnic.  He imagined heading back to WV to connect with family, and wrote the song, I believe he had never been to WV at the time.

Bill and Taffy Danoff were later members of the Starland Vocal Band, with that monster hit song "Afternoon Delight".  Just a little DC music history discussion.

Have you seen the movie "Anchorman"?  There's a whole scene with the news team harmonizing on Afternoon Delight". It's a scream; they do a pretty good job with it IMO. Coincidentally, one of the DVD's Special Features is the cast doing a video for it as well.
Interesting you brought up the piece about certain songs marking places in time. One of the songs they play at RFK a lot is "I Go Back" by Kenny Chesney which talks all about that soudtrack to our lives.
