Nationals @ Braves, Game 3
« Topic Start: June 27, 2007, 01:41:34 PM »

June 27, 2007 - Turner Field, 7:35

John Smoltz
8-4, 3.14 ERA

Micah Bowie
4-2, 3.63 ERA

Yunel Escobar (2B)
Edgar Renteria (SS)
Chipper Jones (3B)
Andruw Jones (CF)
Jeff Francouer (RF)
Brian McCann (C)
Matt Diaz (LF)
Jarrod Saltalamacchia (1B)
John Smoltz (P)

Ryan Langerhans (CF)
Felipe Lopez (SS)
Ryan Zimmerman (3B)
Dmitri Young (1B)
Austin Kearns (RF)
Ryan Church (LF)
Ronnie Belliard (2B)
Brian Schneider (C)
Micah Bowie (P)
________________________________________________

In his last start, Bowie lasted only 4 1/3 innings, though he yielded only one run against the Indians. By the time he left the game with the score tied at 1, Bowie had thrown 104 pitches, 58 for strikes. Bowie's fastball wasn't effective, and he acknowledged that he was trying to strike people out to help him get out of the inning. He ended up with a season-high seven strikeouts in the game.

Smoltz became the Atlanta Braves' all-time strikeout leader when he picked up No. 2,856 in the first inning against Detroit on Friday, but that was about the end of the good news. Smoltz allowed five runs in the sixth frame, with the potential for a big inning lingering after Smoltz labored through the fourth and fifth. It was the second time he allowed more than three earned runs in a start this season and the first since April 22, when he allowed six in a loss to the Mets. Smoltz was hitting corners as he cruised through the first three innings, but in the sixth he started leaving pitches over the middle of the plate and the Tigers made him pay by collecting six hits, including two doubles. Smoltz exited after the sixth with seven Ks, one short of his season-high and a total he has matched in three of his past six outings.

Pats you on the back, you actually have the starting pitcher's names matching their images... LOL

I find it odd that today's Gameday thread was posted so early, especially after you who pissed on me yesterday for posting my Gameday thread 3 hours before game time...

Maybe I should do like you did, and delete yours and insert mine later...

This lineup w/ Langerhans batting #1 and Lopez at #2 doesn't really give me high hopes for some early run support for Bowie. It seems like it's been a while since we scored early.

I like seeing Langerhans up first. Because I just have a feeling about him, but damn, I hate to see Brandon Watson not in there everyday.

It might be but we really don't have any other suitable options now that Watson is gone..

Yeah, but on 745.  For whatever reason, MASN2 is blacked out in FL.  Maybe that's because we are closer to the Braves, and I have their announcers.
