Meh, I don't particularly mind.  At least we won't be debating the hustle in the infield anymore (Belly will try to make plays that he is completely physically incapable of making, and make them anyways 1/2 the time).  No more SS watching balls bounce by.

The ligament tear is a lot worse than a break, and will take quite a bit longer before he even starts rehab.  With only about 3 months left, even a sprain or strain could take a guy out for a good chunk of what's left of the season.

Good points..you're right. I just hate that there are so many injuries these days. Players like Prior, Griffey, K. Wood, Nats, and all of the many others whose careers have been ruined (or almost ruined) is just too sad. Something needs to be changed around baseball so we can keep these guys around longer.

Belliard won't be playing Guzmans position and

Guz's bat>>>>>>>>>>>Belliard alone.

As I said in another thread, I really worry about losing Guzie's bat now. Tonight's game shows how much we'll miss him. Felipe can do the glove work; I hope he heats up and stays that way for the rest of the season.

Damn, Guzman must feel like crap now.

There was a major positive tonight. Bergmann came back and shook off a little of the rust by throwing close to 80 pitches, although only 4 innings, and showed decent to above average command. Hopefully he can go a little longer next time and show a little more life in his fastball and improve with each successive outing.

O well. At least now i can rest easy that my boy Belly will remain a Nat. It's unfortunate that it took Guzman getting injured to allow Belly to start, but whatever. Belly should have been starting the past month over Felipe.

Anyways, should we add SS to the list of necessities for the off-season?

Keep thinking that. Belly's combination of bat and glove is the best on the team. Guzman has a good bat but his fielding is sketchy. Belly plays both sides of the game to perfection. See Belly saving Guzman's life on Sunday with the stretching barehanded grab. O by the way, in the same game #10 went 3 for 3.

Come on Mets Suck, i thought you would be a fan of Ronnie!

thats too bad.  i think this hurts even more with regards to what we do for next year. do we or dont we have a shortstop? was guzman's month and a half an anomaly or is he legit?

He should be healed by ST if not sooner but keep in mind that we're in for another 4 mil for next year on Guz anyway so unless we're willing to eat that salary (doubtful) he'll be back next season at SS.

Yeah, Belliard ain't no Cristian Guzman offensively, but neither is Zimmerman, for that matter.  Here's the rankings of our position players offensively, through yesterday.  No way around it, Guzman was doing a great job and his loss will be felt:

It was that great tag he made on the caught stealing play Sunday that did it.  Damn.

Barfield takes a hit in the head; Guzman's gone for the year.  Guess who got the better of that exchange.

Sigh. Maybe all this bad karma is just building towards a great season next year.
