FINAL:
Nationals 8
Tigers 9

Down 9-1, an improbable comeback that fell short, against the best hitting team in baseball.

makes me feel better about the next two games coming up - good to see the guys get 8 runs at home - clean up the defensive miscues and we can certainly win a game or two against these guys ... great job by Saul and Big John ... they looked great ...

it was sad that they couldn't complete the comeback but DAMMIT, THIS TEAM SHOWED A LOT OF HEART!! They could have EASILY let up and get crushed 11-2...or 12-2...but they kept on PLAYING BASEBALL!!  I don't know about Mr Sunshine and the rest of y'all...but I'm PROUD of their effort!!

And this is a good example of why Logan should never start.  Langerhans did more in 1 AB than Logan did all freaking game.  If Langerhans had started this game we would have most definitely won.  That is the bad thing about these close games.  There are a thousand things that they could have done better to ensure that they had won the game.  When you lose 9-1, 9-5, there are usually more than 1 huge things you can point to.

Yep, I'm glad they didn't lose 9-1 but losing 9-8 is the same as losing 9-5.  Young really did us in.  He would have been better off laying down a bunt.

Awww C.MON!!! If he had failed to lay down a bunt, you would have been screaming WHY DIDN'T THEY LET HIM SWING AWAY??

and you KNOW you would....

Umpire with the blown call at home for the loss ...

I would have PH Belliard for Young to lay down the bunt and I'm sure Belliard, an experienced vet who is handy with the bat, could have laid down a suitable bunt.

We came back from eight runs down and damn near won. There is NOTHING "most dissapointing" about that.  For once, quit your f*ckin whining

Ugh...

I look at the score and re-ask about the question about smart, mistake-free baseball.  >:(

And ESPN promptly rubs it in our faces with an update on our failed comeback. The retard announcer for the Braves/Sox game sais "and the Nationals fail to get out of their own way" which i have no clue what that means.

you would have taken the bat out of the hands of one of the better hitters on the roster?

Nah....I don't think so.

That is just ridiculous beyond words - Young is one of the hottest hitters in the league - he had already roped a hit earlier in game - you take the bat out of the best hitter's hands to lay down a bunt??? Just stop ... please ...

The Nats would have won 5-4 by my count ... but personally ... I'm still really steamed about that safe call at home - at the very least, that's a call you should get at home ...

People should just be happy we played tough against a much better team. I kind of wish we would go on a losing streak(not really) so I can stop hearing the keep Dmitri and Belliard crowd.

Bunting in that situation is elementary.  2 on and no out.  After a successful bunt, then you only need a flyball or ground ball to score a run.  Without bunting, you have to get a base hit.  Whatever, It was a very nice comeback but when you have 2 on and no out and fail to plate a run down by 1 in the 9th it just sucks.

tell that announcer he can .......nevermind...I don't want to get banned from the boards for saying something wrong.  ESPN rarely shows highlights of us winning a game, but they sure show highlights when we lose.  anybody else ever notice that?

 at Johnny and Ray ripping on the Nats for their stupid miscues.  Just inexcusable plays by Logan, Church, and Young that proved very costly.

Well I could not disagree with you more - the Nats had just had FIVE consecutive hits - they were pounding the pitcher - isn't that "elementary" baseball of giving away outs what made all of us nuts about Frank? I like that Manny is aggressive and we can agree to disagree but I would have NEVER pinch hit for Young in that spot ...

I swear, the Nats could win a game 15-1 and you'd STILL find something to whine about!!

Jeez...care for some cheese with your whine?

I would rather they'd lost 9-1 than come close like that.  Now the Tigers are far less likely to underestimate us in the next two games and winning either of them will be even harder than it was already going to be.

Which will make the next WIN against them even better!!!

Just got in and recapped the game.

I'm sorry, that is the dumbest attitude I have ever heard.  You'd rather them just give up rather than try to win the game and when and if they don't win, you want to nag at them for doing so just because you can't keep your own emotions and disappointment in check?  Sick.

We just went toe to toe with a rising powerhouse and didn't give in.  The game didn't swing in our favor tonight.  Tomorrow is another game.

Wow ... a very exciting night of baseball ... I'm off to Hawaii tomorrow for a couple of weeks - Waikiki is 6 hours behind so I probably won't catch you all ... but I'll be cheering from afar! ... you all have a great night!
