The Mets and Phillies rivalry seems to be heating up nicely.  Rhys Hoskins took 34 seconds to circle the bases on his HR last night, after being thrown at twice the day before.

Wilson Ramos could even beat that.

Division by division records. The top four teams in the NL East cumulatively have a losing record outside the division.

Sergio Romo just slammed the door shut on the Phillies. Atlanta is losing by 3 runs in the 7th.  A GOOD DAY FOR THE NATS!

Only the Braves have a winning record outside the division and they're about to get beat by the lowly Reds.

A point that is not so obvious -- The National League in general is much better this year.

Phillies are finally catching fire.

At this point, this thread should be about finishing above the Marlins

Mark Lerner, when we're 15 games back in July: "We didn't think it was right to give up on the season."

Rizzo: " That's why we were pro-active in locking up Martinez to that long-term extension.  We had faith in him righting the ship, like he says, our guys really battle every night."

Honestly, it's starting to feel like we should get rid of everyone we can except Max, Turner, Robles, and Soto. I'd say Max too except I feel like it's worth the rest of his contract to ensure he enters the HOF as a Nat.

if you can get a top prospect for Max, you take that deal in a heartbeat.  Max isn't going to get any better and if we're reloading, now's the time to move him.

The Lerners are in denial though. They likely think the team can still compete.  It’s also quite possible the team will move up to .500 later in the summer which will help confirm that for them. In retrospect the reasons for contenders falling apart seem obvious but not always at the time. See the recent Phillies and the current Giant.

And at this point Harper, Nola and Dominguez have been bad. McCutcheon and Franco have cooled off and Realmuto’s  offensive numbers are mediocre. Seems like quite a few strong teams in the NL so wild card will be just as difficult or maybe more so.

It's only important to them that the fans think they can still compete...

7 for 16, why that's almost .500 ball.

oh, wait.

You mean 7 out of 23.  That's decent for a batting average.

Oh, wait.

You mean 7 wins and 16 losses.  Well, if you bet strategically, I'm sure you can make money.

Oh, wait.
