The GM you wanted to fire had a deal in place. Blame the owners that nixed it

I didn’t say fire Rizzo for Harper. It is on the desperate owners, marketing short sighted decision.

Rizzo being let go is more about him not being able to construct a pen and having more than enough time to win a playoff round and not succeeding. It’s a results oriented business.

DJ Lemathieu is batting. 440 for the Yanks. Dozier is batting .115

We have 3 good starting pitchers. Good young players at LF, CF and SS. A great 3B who will we will lose in free agency and get nothing in return. A decent C, RF and 4th starter In Sanchez.

So 10 above average players on our 25 man roster.

This team simply isn't very good. We keep trotting out Zimmerman year after year. Our bullpen implodes every game which must kill the morale of this team. The Harper fiasco will forever hang over our heads. It's going to be a long year.

I disagree.   Wait until at least the end of April before making such a judgement. I think this team is very good.  The Phillies and Mets are very good teams and we're matching up with them.  After the next three against the Phillies, we have a string of bad teams for most of the remainder of the month.  And that's how it's going to be most of the season.  Right now I see 90 wins. Might not be enough to win the division, but enough to make the season seriously interesting.

100% agree. How many times in the recent past have we seen our friends 30 miles up I-95 starting planning the WS victory parade in April and May, only to fall back to earth the rest of the summer? It's way too early to write this team off. The Nats, just like the rest of their NL East rival will making adjustments all year, and I wouldn't be shocked to see NYM, ATL, PHIL, and Nats all fighting for the division/wild card in late September.

It makes sense that the Phillies are hot right now. They made some signings, made some trades and enthusiasm is high. But the 162 is a grind and enthusiasm only takes you so far. Wnff has watch Harper for many years, you know Harper always has a good April, even when he has down years. They don't have the Rotation nor the Bullpen until they prove they do.

Unlike the Mets who you know have a good rotation and a good Bullpen. Their Lineup is as good as Philly too.

I still think our Nats are the best N.L. East team. We have the best Rotation top to bottom, and as good a Lineup as anyone. We have a Bullpen problem. It needs fixing.

I honestly see the best team being either the Nats or Mets.

Now that Eaton is healthy, he's underperforming.  This is not the 5 WAR player from the AL Central.

Never thought I'd say this -- platoon MAT with Eaton.

We'll see if he turns things around. I think the injuries of the last few years have taken their toll.

Honestly, after the crapshow they has been the past two weeks, only being two games back is pretty good. Let’s hope they use this win to turn it around.

This season will tell us a lot about Strasburg. He entered the season a #2 starter on a team with a true ace. Will he still be thought of that way at season's end? By the Nats, or any other team.

Declining velocity (and all that brings) and another lengthy absence from the rotation could see a dramatic down shift in how he is viewed. What year is he under contract through, again?

I think we already know what he is at this point. He's totally reliant on location and movement now. He's under contract through the 2023 season. Theoretically, he could opt out after this season, but there's no way he's going to get 100+ million at age 31. Not when he sits at 91-92.

At this point, I'm wondering if he moved to the pen, would his velo perk back up? Make him the setup guy for Doolittle, then go make a trade for Bumgarner and Smith from the Giants.

Well, now I've seen it all. Completely insane to talk about blowing it all up only 10 games in to our Suzuki window.

Deal them now while we still resemble a decent and not desperate team.

Right. Go all in or blow it up. But we can't be doing what we did last year.

...maybe some overreacted really, really, really early in the season?  It's a very long 162 grind in what will be a tough division.  There will be highs and lows for the entire division...well the Marlins only lows.  The Phils and Braves both have suspect starting pitching.  Neither has a closer the level of Doo either.  The Mets have a pretty balanced club, but we'll see if that sustains.

Three teams are 7-4. One is 6-5. So I would say 4 teams are for real. Going to be a tight race.

Do we need to start a Sunshine Squad thread. Hell, this one is the equivalent of the Legion of Doom.

You could get a Kings ransome for Robles right now....
