Its past time for Rizzo to find this team a closer and two middle relievers

Jesus man. The dude has pitched 2 innings this year after not having a spring training.

He had four appearances in the minors prior to being put on an MLB roster. He also had two months of the regular season to get ready on his own.

Ok, if Guerra, Venters, and Rodney end up all being useful, that's a tremendous on the fly rebuild of the below closer pen. Rainey and Suero don't have to handle more important innings than they are ready for.

I wonder what it would take to pry Will Smith from the Giants.  He's a Doolittle clone but has been almost equally effective against LHB and RHBs.  This year righties are hitting .153 against him, lefties .176.  If we could get him for Garcia and something else not named Carter Kieboom I'd jump on it.  If we can extend him he's our closer for the next few years (he's 29).

Dyson would be a better get for the Nats. Because we probably need to get 2. Dyson would take less prospects

Significant, but I would think Garcia and some other pieces may be enough. It's truly dependent on what the market offers. If there is a run on closers, Smith's value will go up and the Nationals don't have the prospects to trade for him. Not compared to a team like the Braves that have a plethora of 50/55 FV prospects.

Smith is a rental though. He will want to hit the market.

Pass. Ground ball pitcher with poor away splits this season. I'd take him in middle relief, but this team needs another back end reliever

Alex Colome from the Sox and Sam Dyson and Tony Watson from the Giants.

Go all in. We are 1st in the WC standings and 6 games behind ATL. We've won 8 out of our last 9 and 13 out of the last 16. The lineup can rake. Max, Strasburg, Corbin and Sanchez have been lights out. Show the team we mean buisness and upgrade the pen.

Alex Colome
(L) Sean Doolittle
Fernando Rodney
(L) Tony Watson
Sam Dyson
Javy Guerra
(L) Jonny Venters

Out

Tanner Rainey
Tony Sipp
Wander Suero
Mark Grace

That's puts us over the tax. Dont really want to go over the tax for middle relief quality.

Also, I'd rather have Tanner over Rodney

Yes. This is true. Maybe some sucker will take Zimmerman off our hands :)

Guerra has probably been the best reliever not named Doolittle.

Rodney and his veteran confidence has been a great pick up.  We needed to add 2 or maybe 3 set-up guys at the deadline, but getting him for free knocks that down to 1 or 2 guys now.  Maybe 1 bonafide 8th inning guy/closer and a good lefty middle guy.  That is doable.

Rodney is Fool's Gold. This pen needs a lights out 7th and 8th inning pitcher.

If they can extend Rendon during the break, Carter is gone and will get us one

Rodney might turn out to be a valuable tool if used sparingly.  Right now this team desperately needs an adequate 5th starter.   Anything other than what is now on the current 40-man roster.

I think you’re out there by yourself if you think the Nats biggest problem is a 5th starter. I’m pretty certain everyone would say it’s the bullpen that needs help.

True enough, but the same could be said for almost every team.
