Serious question:     Was that the word on him?

To some extent. Came in to ST out of shape.

Thanks.    I hadn't heard (or don't remember hearing) that.

Well, he came in fat.  I don't know about out-of-shape.  Lots of fat pitchers do fine.

Wil Cordero

Not sure why I remember this guy.    Lookin' at his numbers, it wasn't about production.    I think he stuck in my mind because he was so bad  ...  all around.

So Soto is due back Saturday.  Is that the end of the line for MAT or do they try Soto at first?

MATs bat is awful. But so is this defense. It’s given up so many runs. I can’t imagine it would be good to jettison the only good outfielder.

If you start Soto at first for the first time in an MLB game, you are officially punting the season.

I can’t see them carrying five OFs.

Is a five run lead enough?

This is pathetic. First of 4 game Series against the Dodgers and running out your closer with a 6 run lead in the ninth. I’m ok bringing him in to get out of the jam. But bringing him back after a long half inning to face the 6-7-8 hitters is beyond stupid.

It's like you haven't watched this bullpen before

I remember Wil Cordero. Was a pretty popular player for the Expos. I didn't realize he played for the Nats in 2005. Maybe I just forgot...

nothing like having 5 outfielders on a team already struggling with depth

Unless you believe MAT will help lead this team to the post season in 2020, the only upside to playing him everyday now is to hopefully raise his market value in July.  I think it's worth the gamble.  At this point Adam Eaton doesn't need to play everyday.

Put MAT at short. Didn't he play there when he was young? Didn't he play there for one play last year?
