Yes. He should have taken a contract with a rebuilding team that has about the worst farm system in baseball and that plays in a difficult park for power hitters. To make the DC fans feel better although he won’t be playing for them over the next decade or more. Kind of like Werth should have never gone to a division rival.  :hysterical:

Yes. Sports fans are always rational.

Phillies fans hated Werth for that too.

Being a sports fan and getting emotional over your teams victories and defeats isn't really rational anyway.   Going to a rival for 10% more than our initial offer is a heel move and a disregard for his legacy with the Nats.

Going to California to be close to home would not have been taken that way.

So did Werth worry about it?  Why should Harper worry?  He took the most money on a team that is upgrading. He really owes nothing to the fans. Just as Werth owed nothing. It’s a business for the teams. Why should players be any different?

This is all so f'n childish...

Gotta wonder which WNFF'er will run onto the field and try to burn his Harper jersey in short right field before Rick Monday jumps from the stands to stop him?

Jeebus people...this isn't Cleveland...

Just going to beat this drum until I'm red in the face.

The 10/300M offer was not real. It had significant deferred money that massively lowered the value of the deal, and it was off the table before his market developed. When his market was clear, he didn't have an offer from the Nats. No one except Bryce knows what would have happened if the Nats would have had an offer for him after he'd heard what everyone else would give him. You can't blame a guy for trying to get the most he can, and that means waiting out the market.

Werth isn't a comp, he had a massive offer that was way bigger than the hometown deal, it would have been foolish not to take it.

The Nats never made a serious offer (based on the reports of 35 years of deferrals), it don't believe they wanted him back but they wanted the fan PR of a high dollar bid. Boras never even bothered to counter, he just used the bid to pump up other offers, and Harper didn't mention the Nats in his comments this week about the negotiations. The Lerners and the team wanted him gone and the feeling was mutual, Harper knew he'd worn out his welcome.

I'm not upset that he choose a better deal.

I'm not upset that he went to a division rival.

I'm not upset he left. Honestly I rather he not infect the young players with his attitude.

I'm upset that he held back in his last year here. That he didn't run, that he focused on home runs. That he played the 2018 season for him and not for the Nationals.

Most Nats fans will cheer him that night. I will not. He can eat a bag of poo as far as I'm concerned.

The one thing I hope Nats fans embrace is that we have a bonafide, hated rival now.

Does that mean our Nats sold a block of 500 seats to a Philly tour group (right behind Harper in RF)?  Is Susan O'malley running the club?

There's going to be a lot more rolling pukers than can fit on one bus, especially with the Flyers season about to end.

My condolences to Nats fans that have seats out in right field.  What a disaster that is going to be.

There's still time for businesses in the area to install steel shutters.  Or even screw plywood over the windows.

Washington sports venue are always going to attract out of town fans because like Florida, but dreareyer, everybody here is from somewhere else. Add in your bandwagon idiots and the profiteers there is often not a " home team advantage"
Wrose is luck. What can go bad will. Harper will hit 10 home runs on April 2nd
