He didn't turn down a larger offer to go elsewhere, he didn't crap on DC in an interview, he didn't slide hard into 2nd base and injure Trea Turner. All he did was accept a record $330 million contract from another team after the Nationals did not seriously pursue him. The Nationals did not need to resign Harper for $330 million, they have Soto and Robles and a lot of non-OF holes to fill on the team. Frankly it would have been a bad baseball decision to resign Harper.

I am quite certain that all of the anger at Harper is about one thing alone: that he chose the Phillies.  He should have had sense enough to chose a team out of the division.  The Giants were offering  comparable terms  (not quite as much, but a better annual average);  if he'd signed with them we'd all be wishing him best of luck and nobody would be booing him when the Giants visit.

Yes. He should have taken a contract with a rebuilding team that has about the worst farm system in baseball and that plays in a difficult park for power hitters. To make the DC fans feel better although he won’t be playing for them over the next decade or more. Kind of like Werth should have never gone to a division rival.
