What if the other team pinch hits during his time on the mound?  I think this really cripples a manager's ability to manage a game.
Should help out the Nats then. I’m for it.

Good one, I like it!

I don't see how pinch hitters mess things up too much.  Put in a pitcher you know is going to get through the guys up and the guys on the bench.   They can always IBB a really bad matchup, still lots of strategy in play.

Bases loaded...tie game?  Matt Grace is on the mound...or Sammy Solis...

I think they'd come down with a sudden injury...

I think it's a really stoopid idea...

Not sure why this bothers me so much...I think because it's so contrived...

(Getting in a lot of "I thinks" here)

:old:     Me too.    They're trying to reach an audience they will never get.

I like the rule changes mostly because the old farts here don't like them.

Some of the rule proposals will never, ever, ever see the light of day in MLB. The whole starting a runner at 2B thing is a joke.

I like that one the best.

Similar to the college football OT rule.

Sure it is on its surface. But as you know mlb values its traditions and history more than other sports.

I know. That’s why they keep losing fans.

Believing MLB can tweak the rules to bring in fans is like believing EG can tweak the Wizards lineup to make a finals run.     :)

The reason for MLB's dwindling market share is complicated. Much of it is simply the natural pace of the game in the digital age. They can tweek it a bit with pitch clocks, etc., but they can't change the essence of the game to suit 21st century tastes. Putting a runner on second base in extra innings would a real desperate act but on second thought I suppose it could happen down the line.

It’s a sport that relies on local fans (as opposed to football where most fans will happily watch teams other than their own). Hard to convince average fans to care when if their team isn’t tryiny to win (which isn’t rare when half the teams are openly tanking). The NBA can survive tanking because people follow players as much as teams and will happily jump on bandwagons- baseball just doesn’t have a fan base that behaves that way

I agree with that but let's step back a bit. Why is baseball's appeal locally or regionally focused and not national? I just don't think the pace of the game lends itself to television when it's easy to get distracted by the all mighty remote control.

Testify
Do away with the President's race.    No problem with a pitch clock and/or some kind of halt to the wardrobe adjustments.    Oh yeah, no DH.

Agreed.  It's a slow, tactical game with a few minutes of excitement (sometimes).  It's not football, hockey, or basketball.

My thoughts on the rules:

I don't mind the three batter minimum to much.
I don't want the DH, but think it's something of an inevitability.
I like the pitch clock and might even go a little quicker, like 15 secs.
I even like the extra innings proposal.
No need to lower the mound.

I'm 75. Went to my first game in the 1951 season. I like all the proposed new rules except the extra innings change. On the DH, the Players Union is gonna get it in the NL. Just a question of when, so might as well be now.

Basically, I'm for anything that would speed things up and, most importantly, reduce Ks and get the ball in play. I don't wanna watch a parade of strikeouts.

Also hate how the starting pitcher has lost relevancy. Relievers, no matter how good, just aren't "marketable." No one goes to a game hoping to see Kimbrel, or Chapman, or whomever. Need more starters pitching late in games. If they can't, they are not worth the money they are getting.
