Makes ya proud he's on our team.

OT    Knew a guy from Nicaragua in the early 70s who learned English by watching "I Love Lucy".

There were these two brothers back in the 1980's.  One spoke no English, one learned English from watching Wide World of Sports.  So you tell me… Which is better, speaking no English at all, or speaking Howard Cosell?

I was doin' my walk about the other day and ran into a Spanish speaking family looking for directions.    My Spanish is elementary at best.    Their English was about the same level.     The dad spoke into his phone in Spanish and the English translation appeared on the screen.    Amazing.

I think we are 10-15 years away from a universal translator, ala star trek

It's been a thing at least since June. And I don't think imref made it up.

Google Translate has been doing that for a few years and there's even an audio component. In other words, he could have had the English translation read to you by a voice that sounds like your GPS.:-)

My son tells me the only reason I turn the GPS on is so I can have someone to argue with.     It was my first experience with the app (no personal smart phone).      I hope they found their way to Western Union.     There was a guy who stopped in an SUV who spoke Spanish.    He could probably tell we weren't doing well.      They had a short conversation.    Jumped in the truck and off they went.     I got a tag number  ....   lookin' out for the kids.
