Fangraphs top 121 starters: https://twitter.com/federalbaseball/status/1093625730251001861

We have 1 (Max), 21 (Corbin), 22 (Strasburg), and 79 (Sanchez)

Found it interesting that they have Kershaw down to 13, behind Buehler.  Cleveland has 3 of the top 11.

What would folks think of using an "opener" to go through the first inning and then bringing Hellickson in for 2+ times through the batting order?  The article in the post (Saturday? Friday?) mentioned how Hellickson wants to be given a longer leash in games where he has low pitch count (in the 60-70s range) rather than pulled right after he goes through the order twice.  Folks have been back and forth on whether pulling him when he is pitching well in a game, with some saying this burns the bullpen and others saying he can't be trusted.  I/m/o, I'd rather chance giving him multiple batters a 3d time through if it were 5-6-7-8 rather than 1-2-3-4 in a batting order.  I'd think Grace or Glover, or maybe Rosenthal or Barraclough, would be able to get you one inning, and if it means that now Hellickson can give you 6 innings rather than 5, it probably stresses the pen less.

Yes

He probably will.  'Cause Stras hates the spotlight...

Top three is scary good. Back two aren't terrible. Could be sneaky good if they don't regress.

I'd like one more veteran arm, but that's probably selfish since Voth, Fedde, and Ross are going to be in Syracuse waiting.

Are we trading them to the Mets?   :)

At his age and just being a pitcher, you have to have some worry Max can't stay healthy and/or starts to see a significant drop in his stuff.  But that worry is about as small as can be.

Corbin may not quite duplicate last year's amazing numbers, but so long as he stays healthy, he's going to be really good.

Stras seems to have a rollercoaster with health, and I kind of think he's due to figure out how to make at least 28 healthy starts this year.  I don't know that he'll ever, at 30, become what Max has been year in and year out, but I think in the next few years he could still put together that 1 monster Cy Young-type season.

I think Anibal and Hellickson can be pretty steady on the back-end.  We've seen some guys, like say Charlie Morton, have these resurgences in their mid-30s by getting healthy and refining their pitch mix.  If our 1-4 guys are doing what they can, then Hellickson can remain and 5 and dive guy and we should have a bullpen capable of handling the extra work load.

We really need to get a closer AAA team than Fresno after 2020. Or at least relocate Fresno closer by to have our farm grow some more Nats fans. Like to Baltimore or something

The rotation is totally dependant on three things:

1. Strasburg's health
2. Corbin having a similar performance to last season
3. Scherzer not declining (much)

So a rotation of 5 is dependent on the top 3 guys being healthy and good?  I'd agree with that.

Most lineups are good  1 through 6 and tail off 7, 8, 9.  I don't think you want him beginning his third time through with #5.  On the other hand if it's #7 that means the first inning pitcher pitched to 6 batters and that's not good.  Maybe hope the starter gets the side out in order, if so let the starter pitch the second, and bring in Hellickson after three batters (which hopefully will take you to the third inning).  I think it's an interesting plan worth considering.

If Max, Stras, and Corbin are healthy and what they're capable of, and Anibal is decent, then we should have a bullpen that is capable of picking things up somewhere in the 5th or 6th inning for Hellickson.  Ross is a guy we can use for multiple innings when needed to bridge to the late inning guys.

If you read it sounds like he was talking the rotation in 2015 with Harvey.

Quote from: Ken Rosenthal
#Astros have made both one- and two-year offers to free-agent left-hander Dallas Keuchel, sources tell The Athletic. Offers not in range Keuchel is seeking. Desired terms not known.

Man, forget Kimbrel for a sec, what would you all give Keuchel?

Year 1: 24MM
Year 2: 16MM
Year 3: 12MM

3/52

Or something with a lower AAV, maybe 4 years, and massive incentives for 180 IP.

Year 1: 20MM
Year 2: 12MM
Year 3: 8MM
Year 4: 8MM

4/52 + 4MM for 180 IP each year + 1MM for All-Star/Cy Young => up to 4/72.

That's probably all still low, I remember thinking I'd take him at 4/80 earlier in the offseason.
