2 year deal tells me they see him as the #1.  That he's catching ~100 games a year says they need a solid backup.  Maybe bring Wieters back on a 1 year deal?

OK strategy. As long as the backup can handle the staff and be more than an automatic out  Maybe Wieters will take a big pay cut and ego hit.

Wieters is a minor league / spring training invitee at this point.

This sounds more like a backup signing. I also wouldn't count out Suzuki backing up Zim at 1B.

Suzuki is starting. We're littered with back up catchers

It would be nice to have a lefty at first but we're stuck with Zimmerman.

You haven't made a lick of sense in this entire thread. Stop. Please.

Sounds like a plan. I like Wieters better than the current backups.

This is McLouth money - 2 years, $10MM.  Still doesn't preclude playing for grandal or maybe dealing for Sal (my wish).

I've been lobbying for Suzuki since July of last year.  He's in good shape for an old guy.  Kieboom is a good insurance policy as a backup in case another backup is not acquired...

...have a feeling the Braves are going all out for Realmuto.

It does if you want the team to buy a second baseman and some starting pitching

2 years and 10 mil. What a steal especially considering what Jeff Mathis got

Quote
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that Jeff Mathis' two-year contract with the Rangers is worth $6.25 million.

Mathis is a career .198/.258/.306 hitter and will turn 36 next March but is set for new career highs in earnings the next two seasons. His deal with Texas is not yet official, as the Rangers could be waiting until after the Rule 5 deadline Tuesday.

Still thinking this smells like a guy who could be moved in June if not earlier with his consent.  If there's no Harper, then there's money to go around.

So the Nats would sign Yasmani Grandal, a man who within the last few years has finished 22nd in MVP voting, and sit him half the time for Kurt Suzuki?

Anyone thinking that 35 year old Kurt Suzuki is going to catch half the games is kidding themselves. He signed for backup money. I expect him to be the backup.

Trade for Yan Gomes and Carlos Carrasco.

Gomes is signed for 4 more years (5.95, 7, 9 and 11 million) and Carrasco is signed for 2 more (9 million and 9.5 million)

Problem solved.

And most people are reporting that he won't be a starting catcher. He acts as a contingency plan if they whiff on Grandal or Realmuto. I also see Suzuki at 1B when Zim inevitably gets hurt.

87 games started, only 83 at catcher.

I would have to assume the team store (where they make the jerseys) could sort that out for you in short order.
