With Philly signing McCutchen, it looks like they're no longer in the Harper sweepstakes.

Looking more and more like LA...

Why would they not be? Move Hoskins to first, out Cutch in LF and then play Harper RF

16 million ain't gonna make them out of the Harper sweepstakes

Rockies have cap space, a team ready to contend, need offense, closer to Nevada, and a park that favors lefties.

The last line in that article is classic...

I was puzzled by this line about Mike Green:

Quote
at which point he purchased a home in the Franklin Farms neighborhood of McLean.

I live close to "Franklin Farms", and it's nowhere close to McLean.  I think it's a Herndon mailing address, though those seeking to avoid the negative connotations of Herndon might call this "Oak Hill".

I don’t think this is very telling. He was either looking at a major contract here or somewhere else, with a lot of uncertainty. Why renew a lease if you even had the slightest bit of doubt that you would stay there.

I didn’t renew my lease in Florida because it would have freaked me if I ended up taking a “possible” job offer up in the NCR.

I did take it, but that is neither here nor there.

Timing is everything.  And sometimes a landlord will let you extend month to month, or sign a 3 or 6 month extension that in Harper's case would have gotten him through the signing period.  But maybe he never bought a lot of stuff so moving is no big deal.

Take it for what it’s worth, because our salaries are nowhere near the same tax bracket, but I too like to live a Spartan life style. I have very nice things, I just choose to not have a lot of them. I can easily move in one day with half a day’s help from one friend. It’s just a preference I’ve had ever since I moved out of my Parent’s house when I was younger. The Marine Corps practice of making you move every 3 years only furthered this habit. I would have to assume being a big league player you would have to at least prepare yourself to up and leave on the whims of a trade. I never considered DC Harper’s home. He just worked here. Vegas was his home.

He also may just never live here in the off-season.

Phils say that is not true. Still interested in Machado and Harper.

Which player/agent will go first -- Harper or Machado. Egos involved for sure.

I think Harper is more willing to wait than Machado. He cares about his legacy and being "the big guy" this offseason more than Machado, I'm guessing.

I'm hoping that the hotdog signs a $2 billion contact with the Rays or Phillies.

I want to root against him sooooo much....

I'll be surprised if Machado isn't a Yankee. And, he'll be thrilled to play 3B there when Didi returns.

I assumed since this is a thread about Bryce that's who he was referencing?

The post previous discussed both Harper and Machado. Machado's the hot dog, I think.

Couple things. It seems Harpers agent Boras and Machado's agent Lozano are trying to outdo each other because Machado left Boras to go with Lozano.

The White Sox are reportedly interested in talking to Harper. I'm not sure if the white sox or Harper should run away from that the fastest. It seems when a player leaves the Nats and goes to the white sox they fail miserably. It was so bad both Dunn and Laroche had to retire behind it. Although Dunn had a brief cup of coffee with the athletics before calling it quits.

Seems like a big overpayment for McCutchen. He's not worth 16.5 mil a year for three years. He's at a level if he's lucky he'll hit .250 and 20 homers a year. More moves like this and we won't have to worry about the Phils passing us.

What would be more embarrassing for Royce...to take less that what the Nats offered, or to still remain unsigned on opening day?

Unsigned, but that won't happen.

Here's a nightmare scenario for Bryce: Boras waits it out until mid-January, not satisfied with teams' offers. He ends up signing with the White Sox for 10-years, $325 million with a NTC and an opt-out after 3, essentially a similar deal to what we offered. He starts the season having to explain why he signed with a bad team and why he didn't get his mega deal.

Tag a slow start and getting booed at home onto that and I think it’s worst case. For a deal as large as his, a team has to either sit out the rest of free agency until he signs or accept a big luxury tax hit - it seems like boras could easily over play his hand

How do you know the Nats offered opt outs?
