I'd talk to the Yankees about packaging Gray and Greg Bird together. Bird would fill the Matt Adams role with some potential for a lot more. Both are buy-low candidates but together they'd get more than each individually.

Ironically, Bird has been better against LHP than RHP

I'd rather see Adams return

So would I, however to problems with that:

1. He probably wants (and may deserve) a starting job somewhere
2. He's going to cost 5+ million

Doubtful given his performance here this year.  Adam Lind probably thought the same thing.

That's a good idea if we can afford it (Gray makes $9 million next year IIRC).  He had a decent ERA away from the Bronx.  It probably wouldn't cost us much in the way of prospects if we aren't asking the Yankees to pick up salary.

Bird has been nothing but injured for 3 years.  It's hard to back up the oft-injured 1B when you're on the DL yourself >50% of the time.

I agree on both statements. I wouldn't mind if we signed Lind if Adams wasn't available.

I looked at Lind’s minor league stats last year. Limited. But not good.

Lind's turning 36 this season.  It still seems weird he couldn't find a job last year, but I have to think his major league career is over.

Nate Eovaldi's pitching for peanuts (coming off TJ surgery) but, seriously, if the Nats were playing in the NLCS right now, wouldn't you be as comfortable with Nate out there as with Strasburg? Hell, I'll just go ahead and say it, I'd prefer Eovaldi to Stras (who is making 7x as much).

Not just to pick on Strasburg, there are MANY elite (based on what they are earning) pitchers out there -- David Price would be another one -- who really are no better than any number of lower-paid hurlers, much lower-paid!!.

There's a lesson here somewhere.

If I were GM of a playoff team that had Price, he wouldn't be on the playoff roster.

And yet there are some pitchers who make big bucks and seem worth it. That’s why GMs get paid. To differentiate.  Not so easy to do.

You have to be kidding...do you remember Strasburg's last postseason start?

What if we sign Harper, Kershaw, and Machado
Then we move Turner to 2b and trade Eaton, kieboom, fedde, and Severino for Snell

Jusss sayin

Makes more sense than any other trade proposal you have postulated but I don't think that is anywhere near enough to get Snell. Then again where are we getting the money to sign these players?

TB -- money aside -- likely wouldn't even take Scherzer for Snell. That offer proposed above would take TB about 5 seconds to reject. Go read Blake Snell's stats again!

Yea, all you have to do is look at the Sale trade for a comparable offer. Moncada was a top 5 prospect in all of baseball and Kopech might be the better player

yes. Would take Robles, Eaton and Kieboom. Or Soto instead of Robles. TB has a good year and will wait until the deadline. Maybe if they falter this year they can trade him. Other teams have deeper farm systems to make that trade.

You're talking to someone who wrote this, which I must copy-paste in its ridiculous entirety:

Murphy, Eaton, Ross, and a few Rafael Bautista types for Mike Trout

Robles, Taylor, Difo, Fedde, Severino, Solis For Stanton and Gordon

Soto and a both type for Betances

Sign Darvish

SS Turner
CF Trout
RF Harper
LF Stanton
3B Rendon
1B Zimmerman
2B Gordon
C Wieters

Scherzer, Strasburg, Darvish, Gio, Roark

Betances, Doolittle, Madson, Glover and some combo of Kintzler, Albers, grace, Kelley, Perez
